Dan Cox Named West Coast Crosschecker

Prep Baseball Report is proud to officially welcome Dan Cox to our team. A true baseball lifer with 28 years of experience as a professional scout and recruiter, Cox’s role as West Coast Crosschecker encompasses growing our footprint in his native state of Hawaii while also serving a prominent role as an administrator and scout for the MLB Draft League.

Working alongside MLB Draft League President Sean Campbell, Cox’s infectious energy, passion for helping players and 20-plus years as a professional scout will help accelerate the MLB Draft League’s ascension as the preeminent summer league for aspiring professional players.

While most of Cox’s professional career has been spent on the professional side with the Braves, Angels, Blue Jays, Twins and MLB Scouting Bureau, he most recently served as the recruiting coordinator at the University of Hawaii for two years. Born and raised in Hawaii, Cox’s roots run thick and deep in The Aloha State. Cox played an instrumental role in helping Prep Baseball Report launch its inaugural events in Hawaii last month.

Prior to his tenure at the University of Hawaii, Cox served as the Atlanta Braves’ Southern California and Hawaii area scout for six years (2015-2021). Now a resident of Southern California, Cox will also work hand-in-hand with Prep Baseball Report West Coast Supervisor Brett Harrison and VP of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, to augment our scouting coverage across the West Coast.

“As the recruiting coordinator for University of Hawaii baseball over the last two years, PBR events were my most productive events, and the Future Games was by far the best event of the year,” Cox said. “Scouting and college recruiting is about people. PBR has the best people. I am thrilled to now work alongside those people"

“I am excited to develop PBR Hawaii into the premier option in the 50th state for college exposure, getting players connected and committed. PBR Hawaii will allow me to help more local boys than ever and will be a huge value for the Hawaii baseball community. And I am eager to introduce PBR to the Pacific Rim and work once again in pro scouting with the Major League Baseball Draft League, powered by PBR.”

Cox started his professional career working with the Anaheim Angels as a Baseball Operations Assistant in the front office (1996-2000). He then served four years each with the MLB Scouting Bureau (2000-2004), Minnesota Twins (2005-2008) and Toronto Blue Jays (2010-2014).

Cox drafted and signed big leaguers Joe Musgrove (No. 46 overall), Kolby Allard (14th overall), Michael Tonkin (30th round) and Greg Mahle (15th round). He also drafted Kolten Wong (16th round) and Tyler Anderson (50th round) out of high school; both of whom would go to be drafted in the 1st round (No. 20 and 22 overall) three years later.

Now, Cox will bring his vast baseball experiences to Prep Baseball Report, where he will impact our company’s growth while strengthening our core mission of boots-on-the-ground scouting in effort to help players advance to the next level of baseball.
