No. 6 John Carroll got off to a quick start Wednesday afternoon at McDonogh scoring two runs in the top of the first but things quickly spiraled downhill thereafter. Patriots leadoff hitter Sean Fasano opened the game with a double down the left field line and scored five pitches later as Tyler Blittersdorf sharply singled through the right side. Courtesy runner Cody Kurek would later score for Blittersdorf on an error.

In the bottom half, McDonogh answered in a big way scoring six runs on four hits and five walks. The Eagles strung a few of those hits together but really took advantage of the free passes they were given. Blittersdorf struggled to find his control going just two-thirds of an inning as lefty Sam Hogue came on in relief to record the final out.

McDonogh tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second with a laser line-drive homerun that hit the left-field foul pole off the bat of Logan Lach to make it 8-2. In addition to going 2-for-2 with a walk, and two-run homerun, Lach made a couple incredible catches in the outfield.

Following a double steal in the the top of the fourth to get runners to second and third; Tyler Leach flew out to deep centerfield to plate the Patriots third run of the ballgame and an Eagles error would allow a fourth to cross as John Carroll started to mount their comeback. A dropped third strike and wild pitch in the fifth inning made it 8-5 and it also signaled the end of the day for McDonogh starter Kris Jenner. Of the five runs Jenner surrendered, only three were earned as he finished with five strikeouts and allowed just three hits.

John Carroll would score another in the sixth and load the bases in the seventh before Matt Spind closed the deal getting Kurek to ground out to Kyle Whittaker at first base. Both Jack Bussard (6th) and Spind (7th) were solid in relief for the Eagles shutting down a very potent Patriots lineup. Bussard's run allowed in the sixth came off a hit-batsmen, two passed balls and a fielder's choice and the Patriots only managed to keep their rally in the seventh going via a couple dropped third strikes.

With the win, McDonogh improves to 8-5 (5-3 in conference) on the year while No. 6 John Carroll falls to 10-4 (4-4 in conference).
