FL Summer Kick-Off Player Analysis

The Summer Kickoff Showcase at IMG Academy featured talent from the 2020-2023 classes from across the state. Player went through a pro-style workout and bullpen and are evaluated by PBR for future invite-only events. Below is the players who stood out followed by the best of the rest.

Big strong frame at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds. Good first step and moves athletically when fielding and centers the ball with above average arm with life. Hands are soft while footwork is fluid with quick clean exchange. Balanced approach at the plate with smooth load and short stride while using the lower half well. Has gap to gap power with power to the pull side. Has good balance delivery that stays in line to home with all pitches. Fastball sits 85-87 mph and stays low in the zone. Slider sits 72-73 mph with sharp break at the end and for strikes. Changeup is 78-79 with some sink at the end and has fastball arm speed.

Sammy Contacos C / 3B / IMG Academy, FL / 2021Strong athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 187 pounds. Moves above average behind the plate by squaring the ball in the center of his body when blocking and receiving with strong hands. Has short and clean arm action that has carry and accuracy with throws to second with pop times 1.95-1.98. Balanced approach at the plate with smooth load with short stride. Strong lower half with good bat speed with exit velocity of 86 mph, has a level bat path and is a gap to gap hitter with fluid rhythm. Has bulldog mentality on the field with good presence as a leader.

Good first step with average hands with clean exchange while playing through the ball well. Balanced approach at the plate with a leg kick and smooth load while using lower half well. Above average bat speed with exit velocity at 91 mph. and stays level with bat path and hits gap to gap with power to the pull side.

Twitchy 5-foot- 8, 155 pounds. Strong short arm action with carry and has accuracy. Moves fluid with his footwork and has soft hands to create a clean exchange and plays through the ball well. Has a good setup at the plate with a smooth load with a short stride to help create explosion with his lower half. Stays balanced with the approach with a level path through the zone and hits gap to gap. Good athlete that moves well on the field and bigger than his size.

Stone Frishman OF / 2B / Lakewood Ranch, FL / 20215-foot-8, 155 pounds with present athleitcism. Has good first step with a short arm action that has carry and accuracy. Moves fluid and quick with footwork with a clean exchange and plays through the ball on defense. Has a balanced approach at the plate with a leg kick and explodes with his lower half on contact. Fast bat speed with an 88 mph exit velocity and level bat path with extension. Fluid rhythm and drives the ball gap to gap.

Ian Anderson LHP / OF / Lakeland Christian, FL / 2021Athletic and lanky body at 6-foot, 165 pounds and room for growth. Long arm action with average strength and has good accuracy. Average hands with good exchange when throwing. Balanced approach at the plate and a smooth load and uses the lower half well. Bat speed is present with exit velocity of 88 mph and gets extension with power potential to pull side. Has some arm side run on his fastball at 75-77 mph. Curveball is near fastball arm speed and some late break. Changeup has fastball arm speed and arm side sink to it. Commands the zone with all three pitches. Has he continues to get stronger the ceiling is high.

Christopher McKenna 3B / C / Marjory Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2021Long and lanky build that has room for growth at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds. Has average arm that is accurate. Fields ball on his heels with good hands and average exchange. Offensively, has a leg kick and stays balanced at the plate while using his lower half. Above average bat speed with 88 mph exit velocity and stays level through the zone with extension. Is a gap to gap hitter while showing power potential to the pull side. Will need to develop at a position, but has a very high offensive ceiling.

Average hands with fluid footwork and clean exchange. Balanced approach at the plate with short stride and fires with the lower half. Average bat speed with 84 mph exit velocity and stays level through the zone to be a good line drive hitter.

Shawn Evans LHP / OF / Providence , FL / 2021Stand at 5-foot-10, 148 pounds. Has clean arm action with fastball sitting 78-81 mph for strikes. Slider sits 66-67mph with near fastball arm action with late break for strikes. Changeup sits at 70-71 mph with good fastball arm action, some sink, keeps low in the zone and also throws for strikes. Has good balance and easy arm action to make delivery repeatable. Stays in line to home with good rhythm and landing square with delivery.

Trey Rucker OF / 3B / IMG Academy , FL / 2021Strong frame at 6-foot, 185 pounds. Has short and clean arm action with carry and some accuracy. Has a good first step with average hands and clean exchange, projects well in the outfield. Has a strong lower half in the field and at the plate. Balanced approach but open front side on swing and causes the back side to collapse at times. There is present bat speed with exit velocity of 94 mph. and stays level with bat path. Has gap to gap power and shows power to the pull side. There is strength and bat speed and as he continues to mature could tap into quite a bit more additional power.

Joseph Berger RHP / OF / The Loomis Chaffee, CT / 2020Lanky and athletic at 5-foot-9,155 pounds. Fastball sitting 80-82 mph, slider 68-69 mph and changeup 71-72. Stays in line with delivery to home with all pitches and repeats delivery well. Average loose arm action with a good balance point and throws with ease. Drop and drive motion that has rhythm landing square to home to be able to field his position well. Throws straight fastball for strikes, has a 12-6 break on the curveball and clean arm action, slider is more of a cutter, and changeup has good fastball arm speed with some sink at the end.

Zachary Masnikoff SS / RHP / American Heritage Delray, FL / 2021Moves athletically, 5-foot-7 135 pounds. Short arm action that has some carry with accuracy. Soft hands that moves well with his footwork and plays through the ball with a clean exchange. Balanced setup with smooth load and short leg kick which allows him to stay balanced through the swing. Has average bat speed with a level path and is a line drive type of hitter and could continue to add power as he stays strong with the back side.. Stays in line with delivery home and sits 74-75 mph with his fastball, 62-63 mph with curveball and 64-65 with the changeup.

Jimmy Koza RHP / SS / IMG Academy , FL / 2022Moves athletically and is 5-foot-7, 135 pounds. Has short arm action with average life and accurate on his throws. Soft and fluid hands with a clean exchange and plays through the ball on defense. Good setup on swing with short load and stride and uses the lower half well. Stays level with his bat path and fluid rhythm to produce line drives at the plate. Stays in line with delivery to home and fastball sitting 72-74, slider 63-64 and changeup 65-67. Has good arm action on the mound and creates a repeatable delivery with good balance and rhythm.

Has a clean arm action with average arm speed, his fastball sitting 79-81 mph and commands the zone with it. Slider sits 71-72 mph with near fastball arm speed and strikes. Changeup sits 73-74 and has near fastball arm action with sink for movement and also commands for strikes. Has short arm action while staying balanced and in line with delivery to home.

Aiden Williams LHP / 1B / Marjory Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2021Lanky and athletic body at 5-foot-11, 155 pounds. Has effortless arm action and is balanced and in line delivery to home. Fastball is sitting 67-68 mph which he commands for strikes. Curveball is 60-62 mph with gradual break and near fastball arm speed. Changeup is 62-63 with near fastball arm action and keeps low in the zone. Overall, he fills the zone with three pitches and has potential as he continues to mature and add strength.

Stays low on the ball defensively and good improve with added rhythm. Balanced approach at the plate with smooth load and short stride, makes for a repeatable swing and barrel awareness. Stays level with bat path and hits with rhythm with exit velocity of 74 mph. |

Has average hands and quality exchange but needs to quicken footwork. Has a balanced approach at the plate with smooth load and short stride to let him repeat his swing. Uses the lower half, but could clear the back side more,with average bat speed with exit velocity of 84 mph. Is a gap to gap hitter who stays level with bat path and good rhythm.

Griffin Snyder RHP / 1B / St. Josephs Collegiate Institute , NY / 2021Big frame at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Bends over at the waist fielding and throws across his body but has some accuracy. Has a balanced approach at the plate with a long stride with average bat speed with 79 mph exit velocity. Line drive hitter that stays level with bat path. Has short arm action on the mound and sink with the fastball sitting 75-76 with strikes. Curveball sits 60-61 with slower arm action than fastball with gradual break and strikes. Changeup is 70-71. Knuckle sits 60-61 with good movement and sink for strikes.
