Final Regular Season Kentucky Power 25 Team Rankings

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

As the regular season as come to a conclusion, and District tournament action is in full swing across the state, we are releasing our final Power 25 team rankings for the 2013 season.

After a week at No.2, St. Xavier (29-4) finishes the regular season by reclaiming the top spot by virtue of a 4-0 week with wins over North Oldham, KCD, LCA, and Paul Laurence Dunbar.  Since an early season loss to Covington Catholic, the Tigers only 2 losses to in-state teams came in a one-run loss to #2 Central Hardin, and a two-run decision at the hands of #5 Lexington Catholic.  St. Xavier has been the most consistent team in the state all season, has played a tough schedule, and appears to be primed for a run at the state title.

Central Hardin (27-5) drops a spot to No.2 in the final rankings after a 1-2 week with losses to Meade County and DuPont Manual.  The Bruins are only 6-4 in their last 10 games, but we fully expect them to be a force to be reckoned with as the tournament begins.

Tates Creek (27-6) jumps to the No.3 spot and is undoubtedly the hottest team in the state right now.  With a talented roster from top to bottom, the Commodores have reeled off 13 straight wins, and if they can make it out of the absolutely loaded 11th region, would have to be one of the favorites to bring home a state title.

Other items to note:

PRP and Lexington Catholic round out the top 5.

At 31-5, Lone Oak finishes at No.6 in the rankings, the highest spot they have seen all year.

Bullitt East finishes the regular season ranked No.11 with the most wins in the state at 31-3.

Greenwood moves up to No.19 after entering the rankings last week.

After four consecutive wins over South Laurel, Southwestern, LCA, and Lexington Catholic, Mercer County jumps back in the rankings at No.20.

After a 4 game losing streak knocked them out of the rankings, East Jessamine jumps back in with 6 consecutive wins  at No.22

West Jessamine re-enters at No.24

At 26-7, Beechwood enters the rankings for the first time this season at No.25
