Flint Powers Catholic moves on in the District Semi-Final besting Montrose

By Mike Penn

Rumor had it that Flint Powers Catholic was a team to watch.  Rumor had it that Ethan Wiskur is a player that PBR Michigan needed to see.  Rumor had it that both would not disappoint.

Those rumors were correct on all accounts.

PBR Michigan traveled to Flint, MI today to catch the District semi-final game between Flint Powers Catholic and Montrose.  With Wiskur starting and Power Catholic at home, this was sure to be an uphill battle for Montrose and it certainly started out that way.

Wiskur, a 6-foot-3 righthanded pitcher, started strong with seven strikeouts in the first three innings.  Wiskur's fastball sat at 85-87, touching 88 MPH at times.  The lanky junior cruised along and overpowered hitters.

Meanwhile, the offense started things off with a lead-off single in the first and pushed across a run with a bases loaded walk.  In the bottom of the 4th, the score became 6-0 on a two run double by senior Connor Tuohy and a two run single by Ignacio "Iggy" Guerra.

Montrose mounted a comback in the 5th when Wiskur ran into some trouble.  When back-to-back walks  and a hit loaded the bases, Wiskur dialed things up with a strikeout.  However, Montrose would not be shut out as the put the ball in play leading to an error, which scored two, and a shot up the middle scored another.  All told at the end 4 runs were plated and the score stood at 6-4.

But this game belonged to Flint Powers Catholic as they answered back to score four more leading to a final of 10-4.
