Florence Darlington Tech Scout Day: Quick Hitters - Pitchers

On Wednesday September 27th PBR of South Carolina was on hand at Florence Darlington Tech  for a scout day. The scout day featured players from the Stingers Fall 2023 roster.

The afternoon started with catchers going through a defensive evaluation then pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman collecting data analytics. After the bullpens position players ran a laser timed 60 followed by BP on the field with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After BP outfielders and infielders went through a defensive evaluation.

Quick Hitters

 

Matthew Driver, So. RHP

6-4 200 lean athletic and projectable frame.  Loose athletic arm with a longer arm swing in the back while throwing from a H ¾ arm slot.  Fastball jumps out of hand with some run and sink when throwing his 3 seamer.  FB was up to 93.3 mph with a avg spin of 2061 rpm.  Threw a good hard slider up to 84.3 mph and an avg spin of 2391 rpm.  Change up hard sinking and fading action to it while up to 83.7 mph and an avg spin of 1851 rpm.


Trenton Burnett, So. RHP

Long lean projectable frame at 6-4 185 pounds.  Very quick athletic arm while throwing from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball shows good life down in the zone while up to 92.2 mph and an avg spin of 1972 rpm.  Slider had good break and shape to it while up to 82.5 mph and an avg spin of 2400 rpm.  Change up had good fade and sink down in the zone while up to 80.1 mph and an avg spin of 1500 rpm.


Michael Gibson, So. RHP

6-3 205 physical frame.  Athletic delivery with a longer arm swing in the back while throwing from a H ¾ arm slot.  Fastball has good downhill angle to it while fastball was up to 92.2 mph with an avg spin 2256 rpm.  Mixed in 2 different breaking balls, a hard breaking curveball that was up to 74.8 rpm and an avg spin of 2349 rpm.  Slider had a shorter break to it while up to 78.4 mph and an avg spin of 2360 rpm.  Not a lot of mileage on arm and tons of projection to it.


Eli Stowe, So. RHP

6-4 230 pounds strong physical frame.  Big power right hander with good arm speed while throwing from an over the top arm action.  Fastball jumps out of hand while up to 93.1 mph and an avg spin of 2263 rpm.  2 different hard breaking balls, slider had a shorter sharper break and curveball had more downward action.  Change up showed good action while down in the zone with fade and sink.


Alex Miller, So. RHP

Very projectable frame at 6-6 195 pounds.  Long loose whippy arm from a ¾ arm slot.  Fastball shows good life while up to 90.8 mph and an avg spin of 2282 rpm.  Slider shows more side to side action with a shorter break while up 75 mph and an avg spin of 2244 rpm.  Splitter with downward action to it in the zone with an avg spin of 1140 rpm and a max spin of 79.7 mph.


Marcus Loclear, So. RHP

6-2 172 pound lean athletic and projectable frame.  Smooth tempo delivery with a loose athletic arm while throwing from a L ¾ arm slot.  Fastball showed good life to it while up to 90.3 mph and an avg spin of 2137 rpm.  Curveball had a shorter sharp break to it while up to 77.4 mph with an avg spin of 2356 rpm.  Change up had sinking and fading action down in the zone while up to 83 mph and an avg spin of 1683 rpm.


Jayden Martin, So. LHP 

Big strong physical frame at 6-7 230 pounds.  Short arm action with quickness to it and extension out front.  Fastball was up to 87.9 mph and an avg spin of 2019 rpm.  Slider has a short break to while up to 75.9 mph and an avg spin of 1877 rpm.  Mix in a splitter and change up as well both had good downward action down in the zone.
