PBR Florida Staff

The 2020 PBR Florida Summer Championships kicked off July 24th and 25th at Lawnwood Sports Complex in Fort Pierce, Florida, The event features teams from the 14U, 15U, 16U, and 17U age groups. Each team is guaranteed four games with championships on Monday. We ran into some rain the first two days which shortened the schedule for each day.

Throughout the weekend, we will have a scout blog for each day. These scout blogs are notes on some of the players that stood out to the PBR Florida scouts. Take a look at the Day One and Two Scout Blog.

Day One and Two

Bryant Colon OF / 3B / Palm Beach Central, FL / 2021

The bat really plays for the 2021 Miami commit. Athletic frame with some physicality. Quick bat and showed gap-to-gap power as he launched a double to deep left center than nearly left the yard.

Luke Dennstedt SS / N/A, FL / 2024

Athletic shortstop, worked with rhythm and confidence  defensively. Has a chance to be an above average defender. Offensively, simple, level swing and had a hit and a walk in game.

Leo Diaz C / OF / Oakleaf, FL / 2022

Big, stocky frame with a stout build. Thick arms and legs with strength throughout. Moves with some fluidity behind the plate that figures to get better as he fills out and matures. At the plate he has advanced feel for the barrel and utilizes the lower arms to get the bat to contact point efficiently. He’s quiet with the upper body and transfers energy from the legs as he fires to the pitch. Keeps the hands inside well and lets the barrel do the work more times than not and the bank jumps off when he squares it up.

Tyler Duarte 2B / SS / Southwest, FL / 2024

Athletic two way guy. Showed some raw arm, up to 78 on the mound, but struggled with command. Has really stood out offensively as he has a simple, balanced setup and swing. He is 3-7 in two games and swing projects well.

Anthony Escobar 3B / RHP / Nova, FL / 2022

Athletic build with upside in the frame. Quick twitch ability with fast hands and springy legs. Smooth actions in the infield with a strong arm and clean follow through. Takes a full hack at the plate but stays balanced throughout allowing him to be on time and see the pitch deep. Quick hand speed to the pitch even when he’s a little out front

Bryan Frydenlund SS / St. John Neumann, FL / 2023

Frydenlund is wiry with twitchy movements. Has potential in the frame as he could pack on weight and add size in the near future. Smooth, fluid movements in the field with clean footwork and smooth hands. At the plate the body control stands out as he gets into position to hit with consistency. Takes pitches well and will get deep into counts. A wide base allows him to keep the feet still and drive from the backside as hands follow through. Got the barrel to the ball in multiple at bats and looks confident at the plate.

Cooper Grimes RHP / Plant, FL / 2022

Long whippy arm. High waisted, lanky frame. Fastball up to 81. Flashed an above average 10/4 CB at 70-72. Grimes wouldn’t allow a hit through 5 2/3 allowing just one run with seven strikeouts.

Noah Hayse C / 2B / F.W. Buchholtz, FL / 2024

Hands work well receiving and moves well and quietly behind the plate. The defensive actions really stood out today as he shows some advanced actions currently and still room to improve, lending to a high ceiling. Offensively, fairly simple with bat speed for class.

Trajan Johnson C / 3B / Palm Beach Lakes, FL / 2023

Relaxed, open setup weight sitting on backside, level bat path driving a line drive to opposite field for 3rd RBI of the game. Finished 3-4, 3 RBI’s

Angel Martinez OF / 1B / Calvary Christian Academy, FL / 2021

Martinez is your prototypical leadoff guy as he constantly finds his way on base. Reached base three times today including a single and a double. Constant threat on the basepaths as he stole multiple bases.

Brady Moyers C / 1B / Palatka High School, FL / 2021

Possessing a large, stocky frame at 6-foot-3, pounds. Present strength in the swing and has the ability to stay simple and short while doing damage at the plate. Rhythmic with the separation, utilizing a subtle draw back with the hands and calm front foot land. Showcased the hit-ability and power potential with homers in back to back at-bats during the weekend and is in position to hit early and often.

Alvin Pabon II3B / 1B / Atlantic Coast, FL / 2023

Pabon continues to hit this summer as he utilizes the big frame to create leverage in the swing and relies on the hand-eye coordination and strength in the forearms to drive balls without getting out of control. Got the barrel to the ball with consistency and creates backspin on balls to the OF. Carries the weight well in a thick, stocky build and has surprising quickness which should continue to trend up as he matures and gets stronger.

Collin Priest OF / 3B / Orangewood Christian, FL / 2023

Priest is a tall, long framed 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. He’s filled out and carries the weight well with flashes of athleticism. Has upside at the plate with a smooth swing and balanced approach from the left side. Strength in the hands and wrists allow him to stay short and through the ball at contact.

Marc Quarrie OF / Riviera Prep, FL / 2023

Strong bodied outfielder who produced in game. Fairly simple swing and uses present strength well. Was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Antonio Russo RHP / Cardinal Gibbons, FL / 2022

Russo showed some promise on the mound. He was sitting 81-84 with the fastball. Athletic frame with more room to fill out. Struggled with some command but has some projectability.

Conley Strayer OF / Plant, FL / 2022

Long, athletic frame with body control and adjustability at the plate. Long strides in the OF and bases with potential to get faster. Upside in the body as the build suggests he could put on weight fairly easily. At the plate he gets in the legs and has a disciplined approach. Works the count well and doesn’t get big. Utilizes the body weight in the swing, coiling the core and allowing the long arms to extend through the ball.

Favyan Suarez SS / Sagemont, FL / 2022

Athletic two way player who showed his athleticism defensively at short. Works with rhythm and a quick first step. Left handed swing has some length, but bat speed and upside.

Gabriel Suarez C / 3B / Plant, FL / 2022

Thick, stout frame with above average strength. Moves well for size and shows the athleticism behind the plate, receiving quietly and moving to his knees with relative ease. At the plate he cocks the hands in the slot creating separation and gets on time consistently. Strong hands get to and through the ball efficiently and generates some impressive bat speed.

Tony Woodie OF / 3B / Oxbridge, FL / 2023

Advanced, large frame with athletic ability to boot. Filled out and carries the weight well. Moves well on the bases and flashes fluidity at times. At the plate he utilizes the size and strength to get behind the barrel and do damage out front. Uses the hands well and displays a simple, minimal load throwing the barrel through the zone.
