Ft. Wayne Snider Picks Up a Win

Fort Wayne, IN - LHP Will Coursen-Carr and the Ft. Wayne Southside Archers welcomed in rival Ft. Wayne Snider on Tuesday evening.   Coursen-Carr (Indiana commit) and Snider's Brandon Phelps (2013) took the mound for their respective teams, with Coursen-Carr sitting at 87-90 mph and Phelps sitting at 84-86 mph touching 87 on several occasions.

South Side jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first when Justin Kiessling (2013) reached on an error and advanced to second base on an errant throw. Coursen-Carr then singled to right, putting runners on first and third. Dallas Conley (2014) grounded out bringing home Kiessling, while Donovan Clark (2014) followed that up with a double to the left field fence bringing home Coursen-Carr.

Snider got a run back in the second after two infield singles. Jared Harvey (2013) bounced a ball of the plate and made it to first safely. After a sacrifice bunt and a fly out, Logan Phillips (2013) hit a ball that Coursen-Carr jumped for, but could not field cleanly, setting up first and third. Phillips got in a rundown that allowed Harvey to score from third base.

Phelps gave up another run in the third after an error put the leadoff hitter on second base and Conley hit another groundout RBI, but that would be all that Phelps gave up through the rest of the game.

Snider tied the game up in the fifth when leadoff hitter Bryson Olden (2012) got hit by a pitch and stole second and third. Coursen-Carr struck out the next batter, but Ryan Degitz (2012) then singled to left bringing homed Olden. Degitz would advance to second on an error by the left fielder and Samuel Cook (2013) singled to bring in Degitz to tie the game at three.

In the 7th with the game tied at three, Snider was able take advantage of South Side miscues. Cook singled, for the third time, to lead off the inning and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder. Harvey would lay down a sacrifice bunt, but the throw got away from the second baseman covering first and Cook was able to score from second. With Harvey now on second, he was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Robert Walker (2013) laid down a perfect squeeze bunt that scored Harvey. Snider would add another run with two outs when Walker scored off an error by the short stop.

With a three run lead Phelps shut down any chance of a South Side comeback. He struck out all three hitters he faced, still sitting 83-86 in the 7th. Phelps finished with ten strikeouts, allowed just two hits, no earned runs, and walked three (one intentional) to get the win. Coursen-Carr had ten strikeout, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and walked two.

Final: Snider 6 South Side 3
