Throughout Wednesday, July 26-Saturday, July 30, 2023 Prep Baseball Report Future Games were held in Emerson, Georgia at our LakePoint Sports Complex. For this event the various PBR staffs from around the country selected the best uncommitted rising juniors and sophomores to form teams to represent their state or region in the event, bringing well over 450 of the best uncommitted players in the United States and Canada to one four field quad for 4 days.

For this event, players from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC were selected to form Team Mid-Atlantic. Players on Team Mid-Atlantic had a position player showcase workout on Wednesday and then played in three games, one per day, Thursday-Saturday, going 1-1-1 against Team Florida, Team Carolinas, and Team California. Scouts from all 30 MLB teams and well over 350 college coaches were in attendance.

Burton's Analysis

Lucas Henn RHP / PDG Academy, VA / 2025

XL durable 6-foot-3, 225-pound frame with broad shoulders and a strong upper body. Higher slot and higher release (6’6”). Henn got the start versus a strong offensive lineup from the Carolinas. Henn has starter makeup with feel for four pitches, all of which have the ability to get outs. The curveball has bigger shape (~-10” IVB /~-14”HM) with depth and two plane shape. The slider is firm at 80-82 mph and has more gyro shape and is a solid offering versus hitters from both sides of the plate. The changeup, while not an advanced pitch, is a solid fourth pitch with feel for the zone. It is a pretty easy operation and a strong frame with a little room to creep up in the velo department. In a day and age of throwers, this is a quality arm that pitches and gets outs with more than two pitches.
