Team MS Future Games Recap: Pitching Performances

PBR Mississippi Staff

As we return home from Atlanta it’s time to take a closer look at the young men that represented Team Mississippi at the PBR Future Games. With 375 college recruiters in attendance the event can be a little overwhelming though our Mississippi prospects handled themselves very well and played very competitive baseball with games vs. Alabama, Louisiana, and Tennessee.

Let’s take a look at the arms that made it out to the Lakepoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA.

Future Games Recap: Pitching Performances

+ ’25 RHP Aiden Steht of DeSoto Central has a smooth, effortless looking delivery as the righty worked 2 innings with a fastball that stayed in the 84-86 mph range with consistent arm side action and a little more coming one would think. The pitchability was there while Steht showed solid feel for his curveball (69-72 mph) which with added command will be huge for him moving forward.

+ ’25 RHP KL Farr of Northpoint Christian had plenty of life to his fastball as it jumped through the top of the strike zone during his outing on Thursday. Sitting 87-89 mph, the action gave right handed hitters fits as it rode in on their hands and made for a tough assignment. Farr also displayed tight spin with feel for delivering his slider (70-72 mph) off the edge of the plate versus righties.

+ ’25 RHP Gage Thompson of Oak Grove picked up a player of the game versus Tennessee as the righty worked 2 clean innings with 4 strikeouts. Thompson uses a running fastball that generally stays in the 85-87 mph range. His fastball sets up his curveball (71-73 mph) that absolutely stymies hitters inducing tons of swings and misses. His change up is another solid pitch in his arsenal.

+ ’25 LHP Cooper Waddle of Itawamba had some command issues, though the stuff is there and wherever he ends up, someone will be able to use him immediately in a relief role. Primarily a 2 pitch guy at the moment, Waddle relies on a fastball that worked in the 87-89 mph range on Thursday (though has been up to 91 this summer) and a slider (71-73 mph) with solid bite and soft contact inducing ability.

+ ’25 LHP Gardner Young of Jackson Prep catapulted himself into the Future Games from our Oxford Open in June. We knew exactly who he was beforehand but he made a statement up north that he needed to be at Lakepoint in late July. On Friday, Young showed why he is on the radar of several programs as the lefty worked his fastball up to 88 mph and delivered a very tough 12/6 shaped curveball to hitters with tons of depth and developing command. Expect this arm to get plenty of attention starting this week.

+ ’25 RHP Gabe Hodges of Northwest Rankin has starter stuff and he showed off his 4 pitch arsenal on Friday in Atlanta during his match up with Alabama. Hodges uses a running fastball in the 85-88 mph range with solid feel for the strike zone which sets ups his use of his secondary pitches. The righty then has two quality breaking balls (slider 72-74 mph and curveball 69-71 mph) and a changeup that mimics his fastball well and gives left handed hitters all kinds of fits.

+ ’25 RHP Jarvis Woody of Ridgeland had a vey calm presence on the mound Friday evening and displayed his next level stuff during his 2 inning stint. Woody used a fastball that ran in hard on righty handed hitters and stayed in the 85-88 mph range. With his wiry frame and room for added mass, one would think even more velocity could be on the way. His breaking ball was tight and served as a very solid secondary offering as it tunneled well with his fastball.

+ ’25 RHP Caleb Doty of Lausanne Collegiate finished off game 2 for Mississippi on Friday after spending time at 3B. The dual prospect worked up to 89 mph with his fastball which had lots of deception due to his shorter and very quick arm action. Doty’s breaking ball, when off the plate to righties, should provide plenty of soft contact and swings and misses. Plenty of possibilities to contribute at the next level for this dual threat.

+ ’25 RHP Cannon Hensarling of Ocean Springs battled through some command issues early though everyone could see the reason for the hype. Hensarling has a fastball that quite possibly could be thrown every pitch as it bores in hard on right handed hitters resulting in ground ball after ground ball and reaches the 90 mph mark. He also uses a hard slider that gets up to 80 mph and makes for a tough at bat for even advanced hitters.

+ ’25 RHP Leo Odom of Sumrall settled down after a shaky first inning and gave the recruiters a glimpse of the weapons his right arm possesses. Odom carries a very live fastball to the mound that reaches up 91 mph with heavy arm side run. The 6-3 righty is developing command of one of the better slider at the event with spin rates up to an astounding 3292! His stuff makes for a very tough task for hitters in the box.

+ ’25 RHP Preston McAdory of George County had a very solid outing on Saturday versus Team Louisiana as he put up zeros in consecutive frames. McAdory used a fastball that sat 87-90 mph with good arm side action to get ahead in the count. He then went to his curveball which had tons of depth and 11/5 action. This arm should receive plenty of attention starting this week!

+ ’25 RHP Tre Bryant of Jackson Prep showed off his toughness on the mound after providing a little scare early in the game. Another dual prospect, Bryant slid in hard during a play at the plate and was checked out and had to sit an inning as a precaution. Bryant proved he was all good as he shut the door on the final frame of the event for Mississippi. Using a running fastball in the 85-88 mph range and curveball that stays around 72 mph, Bryant made quick work of opposing hitters.
