Al Ramirez and GBG Vegas held their PBR Scout Day this past weekend with a talented crop of prospects in attendance headlined by ‘21 San Diego State commit Irvin Weems. Weems, Durango, posted an event best 100 MPH exit velocity and carried that over to an electric batting practice round. With a short stride, lightning quick hands and a high finish, he showed mostly to the pull side, spinning on inside pitches with authority leaving the yard six out of his ten swings. Defensively, Weems registered another event best 87 MPH from the outfield and looked like there was still more in the tank. He will be a guy that will find himself creeping toward the top of the 2021 Rankings when they are updated after the new year.

’21 IF/UT Nicholas Calleo, Palo Verde, a projectable athlete that posted a 7.19 laser timed 60 showed good action in the infield as well as at the plate. During his BP round he used a small leg kick that worked well with his timing to get him in position for consistent solid contact, flashing power to the pull side. Defensively, Calleo has a quick first step leading to an increase in range to both the forehand and backhand side that allowed him to get into a good position to field each ground ball paired an arm that showed good carry across the diamond at 74 MHP.

’21 C William Zadrowski, a 4.5 student at Cimarron-Memorial, is a 6’ 180-pound athlete that received the ball well behind the dish. He had an event best 1.96 pop time with a quick release and good carry on his throws. During his batting practice round, he stayed in the big part of the yard driving the ball to all fields with a rhythmic, compact swing. As Zadrowski continues to develop physically, he should be able to increase his power at the plate and his velo behind the plate to improve on his already quality tools.

’22 C Jewell Williams, Arbor View, is a young, projectable athlete with a strong lower half that could be an interesting follow as he continues to develop strength to fill out the rest of his 6’1 frame. At the plate, he may have had the most impressive round, aside from Weems, with the ball jumped off of his bat, 86 MPH exit velo, to all fields. He uses a high leg kick that allows him to stay in his legs throughout his swing complimented by his efficient hand path helping him stay on plane resulting in consistent line drives. Though he did show a lack of foot speed in his 60, he proved that he possesses quickness by his pop time just a shade over 2.0 with each of his throws, 75 MPH, being right around the tag zone. This is a sophomore with a high ceiling that could draw some attention as he matures both physically and on the field.
