Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

Game Notes:

Game 1 – (3) West Valley (CA) vs (7) McQueen

RENO HS – On a welcomed windless morning the McQueen Lancers would host the West Valley Eagles.  Freshman starter, Rob Snelling for McQueen would yield a run in the top of the first to the Eagles, but the Lancers would answer with five in the bottom half and that would be all they needed.  Snelling would throw 4.1 innings, giving up just two runs. Lancer shortstop, Aidan Vestbie was 3-3 and right fielder Zach Foster had two hits, including a double and a stolen base.  Eagle starter, Jared Hummel went the distance for West Valley.

Scouting Notes:

’22 Rob Snelling, LHP/CF (McQueen), Athletic, 6-foot-1, 170 Snelling is a projectable, high waisted left-hander with long levers and room for weight and strength gains,  He pitched with a fastball 80-82, CB 69-71, and CH 70-72.  He throws from a ¾ arm slot with easy arm action and a repeatable delivery.  His fastball displayed arm side life while his breaking ball flashed depth but displayed mostly sweeping action.  His arm speed slowed on the change up it is easy to see all the makings of a solid pitch down the road.

Game Notes:

Game 2 – (7) Lassen vs McQueen (14)

RENO HS – With each team entering their fifth game in three days, the pitching was meeting its limits.  This one was a slugfest from the start with the Lancers plating 5 runs in the first inning.  The Lassen Grizzlies would answer with four in the top of the second and the barrage of runs would continue with the Lancers eventually out scoring their opponents.  ’22 Rob Snelling would double twice in the affair, while Vestbie and Foster would collect two and three hits respectively. Foster recorded his second double of the day as well as another stolen base.

Scouting Notes:

’20 Zach Foster, OF (McQueen) Physical, 6-1 170, Foster looks the part with a tapered upper body and muscular lower half. Foster proved a capable outfielder making easy work of flyballs to right field.  At one point, with a proposed play at the plate on a single to right, he fielded the ball with solid footwork and clean transition, making a true and accurate one hop throw to the plate.  The throw displayed solid carry, with a true low flight. At the plate, He stands tall and strong in the box with a simple approach and displayed the ability to use the whole field with hits up the middle as well as going with a pitch down the right field line.
