Hoosier Holiday Showcase: Catchers Analysis

On Sunday, December 6th, we hosted the annual Hoosier Holiday Showcase at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis. Today, we analyze the catchers that attended the event.

In Alphabetical Order

Tyler Kleva, C, South Bend St. Joseph HS, 2017: 5-foot-11, 200 pound receiver was 2.19-2.37 with his pop times and 70 from the crouch.  Good arm slot on his throws, low transfer.  Comes around the baseball, falls forward.  Needs to quicken up his arm action and footwork.  At the plate hits from a narrow setup with a smooth load.  Stride is short, good balance.  Hips tend to get locked.   Average bat speed.  Overall good approach, shows pull-side power.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 82 mph.  

Nick McCoy, C, East Noble HS, 2018: 6-foot, 195 pounder was 2.19-2.25 with his pop times and 70 from the crouch.  Shows quick feet, with a short/quick arm action.  Average transfer, tends to pop straight up.  Showcased athleticism when blocking the baseball.  Average hands when receiving.  Primary stance is a little stiff at times while more athletic in his secondary.  Offensively, hits from a slight crouch.  Choppy load.  Minimal stride.  Average use of his lower half.  Good balance in the swing.  Average bat speed.  Fair approach with an uphill swing path.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 78 mph.  

Jacob Mullins, C, New Albany HS, 2017: 5-foot-11, 165 pound catcher possesses soft hands while receiving with some athleticism.  Tends to fall/ lean forward when receiving the ball. Pop times were 2.18-2.20.  Pops up out of the shoot, needs to quicken up his transfer and footwork, arm action is long w/ a slight hitch.  75 mph from the crouch.  Offensively, hits from an athletic, balanced setup.  Loads back, short stride.  Average bat speed with uphill, in/out swing path.  Fluid rhythm.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 78 mph.  

Brandon Reid, C, Brownsburg HS, 2017: 5-foot-9, ,175 pound receiver showcased quick feet with a strong arm behind the dish.  Short slot, clean, quick transfer on his throws to 2B.  Registered pop times of 2.07-2.19 and was 78 from the crouch.  

Brody Tanksley, C, Bedford North Lawrence HS, 2017: 6-foot, 210 pounder showcased good receiving skills with soft hands.  Looks comfortable, good blocking ability.   Pop times were 2.19-2.26.  Stands straight up, needs to quicken and shorten up his transfer.  Possesses arm strength, 77 from the crouch.  At the plate hits from a narrow setup and uses a big leg kick.  Showcased good bat speed with a good approach to the ball.  Swing path is uphill, consistently barreled up the baseball.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 86 mph.
