Hoosier Holiday Showcase: Infield Analysis

On Sunday, December 6th, we hosted the annual Hoosier Holiday Showcase at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis. Today, we analyze the infielders that attended the event.

IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER

Jeffrey Burch, 2B, Salem HS, 2017: 6-foot-2, 158 pounder ran a 7.69-60. Displayed average hands defensively with fluid feet.  Arm action is stiff from a ¾ slot at 71 mph.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup, little-to-no load.  Stride is short, average use of the lower half.  Lacks premium bat speed.  Level swing path, slap type hitter.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 74 mph.  

Eric Doyle, SS, Bishop Dwenger HS, 2018: 5-foot-8, 150 pounder ran a 7.65-60. Short, ¾ arm action across the diamond at 72 mph.  Showcased sure hands up the middle with average footwork.  Clean exchange.  Offensively hits from a wide, open setup, loads back.  Short stride.  Good balance in the swing.  Long, level bat path.  Shows good rhythm, line drive type hitter.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 79 mph.

Tyler Kleva, 1B, SB St. Joe HS, 2017: 5-foot-11, 200 pounder ran a 7.68-60.  At the plate hits from a slightly open, narrow setup.  Smooth load back and short stride.  Average use of the lower half.  Good balance.  Average bat speed with a good approach to the baseball.  In/out type swing path produced good pop to his pull-side.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 82 mph.  Average defender at 1B, across the diamond was 68 mph. 

Brice McDaniel, 1B, Columbus North HS, 2016: Strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds.  Works well around the bag at 1B with athletic actions.  Across the diamond was 80 mph.  Runs a 7.51-60.  Offensively, the LHH hits from an athletic, open setup.  Smooth load, short stride.  Good use of his lower half.  Good balance.  Quick bat speed, good approach.  Short path, barrels up the baseball with pull-side power.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 90 mph.  

Jacob Morris, 3B, Yorktown HS, 2018: 6-foot-1, 180 pounder ran a 7.69-60.  Long, lean frame. Shows good hands in the field fluid footwork.  Clean exchange.  Short, high ¾ arm action at 74 mph.  Left handed hitter hits from a wide setup with a bat tilt.  Loads back, no stride. Good approach.  Possesses some bat speed, level/in-out swing path.  Line drive type hitter.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 82 mph.   

Noah Mourey, 2B, Cascade HS, 2018: 5-foot-10, 165 pounder ran a 7.50-60.  Showcased soft hands in the field with fluid feet.  Exchange is clean, plays through the baseball.  Picks it well. Across the diamond from a loose,  ¾ slot was 79 mph with carry.  At the plate hits from a wide setup.  Stride is short, average use of the lower half. Gets heavy on his front foot.  Good balance.  Possesses quick hands at the plate.  Level/compact swing produces line drives.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 78 mph.  

Jacob Mullins, 3B, New Albany HS, 2017: 5-foot-11, 165 pounder ran a 7.60-60. Across the diamond was 76 mph from a short, high ¾ slot.  Average actions defensively, sort hands.  Plays through the baseball.  At the plate hits from an athletic/balanced setup, loads back.  Stride is short, some use of the lower half.  Average bat speed with an uphill swing plane.  In/out type path.  Fluid rhythm.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 78 mph.   

Dawson Read, SS, Indian Creek HS, 2018: 6-foot-1, 160 pounder ran a 7.07-60.  Athletic frame.  Possesses average hands in the field  with average foot speed.  Long exchange, tendency to field on his heels.  Quick arm produces arm strength at 80 mph with some carry.  Offensively hits from a wide setup, toe-tap, small load.  Long stride.  Average use of his lower half.  Possesses average bat speed, level swing plane.  Produces hard hit line drives. Recorded a high exit velocity of 77 mph.  

Caleb Rudisell, 3B, South Dearborn HS, 2016: 5-foot-11, 206 pounder possesses a big/stocky frame.  Showcased good hands in the field, moves well.  Across the diamond was 77 mph with average carry.  Ran a 7.50-60.  Offensively, this from a slightly closed setup, loads back.  Long stride, tends to dive.  Good balance.  Possesses above average bat speed.  Long swing path, showcased pull-side pop.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 86 mph. 

Dino Tharp, SS, Mt. Vernon HS, 2018: 6-foot-1, 179 pounder ran a 7.40-60.  Footwork in the field is fluid, but heavy.  Hard hands, needs to quicken up the exchange.  Long, high ¾ arm action at 71 mph.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup, loads back.  Short stride, average use of his lower half.  Average bat speed, uphill swing plane.  Pull-side type hitter, choppy rhythm.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 79 mph. 

Hayden Wynja, 1B, Heritage Christian HS, 2017: 6-foot-6, 180 pounder ran a 7.68-60. The LHH hits from an open, crouch setup.  Loads back, medium stride.  Average use of the lower half.  Average bat speed, good approach.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 84 mph.  Across the diamond at 1B was 78 mph.  Projects to be a pitcher.
