On August 19 & 20, the PBR Texas team hosted the Wildcatters Scout Day at The University of Houston. Saturday started off by the players running a 60, then throwing from their defensive positions, followed by each player taking a round of batting practice. The Wildcatters then split into teams and scrimmaged for the remainder of Saturday and finished on Sunday. Today, we take a look at some of the standouts from the weekend

William Fiedler OF / RHP / Kingwood, TX / 2026 Fielder has been one of the fast rising 2026’s this summer, and he showed why this past weekend at U of H. Fielder has a projectable frame that should allow him to stack on plenty of good weight. He ran a 6.98 60 showing good athleticism.  He has a quality arm that will play in CF or RF long term.  At the plate, Fielder shows good bat speed, and an innate ability to square up the baseball. During live AB’s he consistently was on time and got off good swings.  Fielder looks the part, and will be a fun one to follow.

 

 

Auston Ware OF / LHP / Clear Springs, TX / 2025 One of the stars of the weekend was Ware. The 2025 from Clear Springs really opened some eyes on both sides of the ball. The talented lefty  started his day by running a 6.88 60 and then got everyone’s attention when he threw multiple 94 mph bullets in from the outfield.  At the plate, Ware showed good rhythm and loose hands at the plate. He generated a max exit velo of 96.2 and consistently squared up the baseball.  To complete an already impressive weekend, Ware hopped on the mound and got up to 86 mph with minimal effort. There are some things to tighten up with the mechanics, but Ware showed the ability to command the fastball and has a feel for spin.

 

 

Ryan Benavides SS / RHP / Clear Brook, TX / 2026 Another standout on both sides of the ball was Benavides. The ‘26 out of Clear Brook HS showed well in all aspects. He ran a 6.83 60 to start his day and then had some of the best infield work on the day. He was good fundamentally and also showed a lot of confidence in his hands. He has more than enough arm to stick at short, as he topped out 87 mph across the diamond. He has a feel at the plate and got off multiple good swings, with some added strength he has a chance to really impact the baseball. Benavides also really stood out on the mound. He really had a plan and used a low 80’s fastball and a sweeping breaking ball to make quick work of his batters.  He also showed a changeup that could be a useful 3rd pitch. Overall, a really good day for Benavides.

 

 

Landon Brown 3B / RHP / Iowa Colony , TX / 2026 Another guy who showed some serious two way ability is Brown. The ‘26 from Iowa Colony is a physical presence on the field and is only going to get bigger. He profiles as 3B/RHP with a lot of juice.  At the plate, Brown has big power potential. He maxed out at 96.7 mph for his exit velocity, and he isn’t even close to being as strong as he is going to be.  He has good rhythm in the box, and showed the ability to drive the ball to right center with authority. Brown also has a lot of upside on the bump. He threw in the low 80’s topping out at 83 mph.  He still doesn’t get into his legs much on the mound, so as the mechanics tighten up, I think he will see some big velo jumps.

 

 

Cash Scarborough RHP / OF / Memorial, TX / 2026 Cash was a standout on the mound on Sunday. The Soph. from Memorial HS showed 3 distinct pitches that all have a chance to be good. The fastball was up to 85 with minimal effort and good command. I thought his best pitch was his curveball that had some sweeper qualities to it.  He could command it, and spun it north of 2600 rpm’s. With more power and strength behind the pitch, it has a chance to be a really good pitch. He also flashed a changeup he threw in the low 70’s that he killed the spin on. Will be an arm to follow.

 

 

Mason Walls RHP / C / Glenda Dawson, TX / 2025 The ‘25 righty out of Pearland Dawson was sharp in his outing on Sunday. Walls was up to 85 with command to both sides of the plate. He flashed a quality breaking ball that got north of 2600+ rpm’s. He has a shorter arm action that he repeats well, and creates some deception as well. Walls has plenty of strength to gain as well, and could see some big jumps in his Junior Year.

 

 

Steven Pena C / 2B / Lamar, TX / 2025 Pena really caught my eye during the workout portion, when he showed some big time catch and throw skills from behind the plate. Pena moved effortlessly behind the plate and had really good feet. Has a strong arm that will continue to get better.  He managed to throw a 1.95 during workouts.  Pena also hopped on the mound and got up to 83. Shorter arm path, and he repeats it well.

 

 

Ty Higginbotham OF / LHP / Atascocita , TX / 2026 One of my favorites to watch hit all weekend was Higginbotham. The LHH from Atascocita has a good plan at the plate and seems to always be on time. He found the barrel time after time during live AB’s and knew when he had leverage in a count and would get more aggressive.  He is flat through the zone and he stays in the big part of the field.  Fun player to watch.

 

 

Micah Green OF / Dekaney, TX / 2025 Green is a toolsy OF from Spring Dekaney and he showed some big time power potential this weekend.  He hit some of the farthest ball during BP and it carried into the game where he almost left the yard to deep left center. He also had a max exit velocity of 98 mph showing off his bat speed and strength.  Green also has an arm that will allow him to play RF if he has to move off CF. Green still has some rawness in his swing, but the tools are real.

 

 

Nicolas Broyles C / 1B / Strake Jesuit College Prep, TX / 2026 Broyles is a physical presence for a ‘26 and brings some loud tools with him. He looked good behind the plate, and showed off a strong arm topping out at 77 mph.  His best pop was 2.11 but that should come down pretty quickly with some tightening off footwork.  At the plate, Broyles showed off his strength with a max exit velocity of 96 mph and multiple others that came close to that.  He has some pull side pop and should be able to stick behind the plate long term, which makes him an exciting follow.

 

 

Yancy Scott II SS / C / Home School, TX / 2028 I got another chance to see Scott, as I saw him at the beginning of the summer at our Houston Open and he continues to get better. One of the younger players, Scott stood out with his glove work in the field and behind the plate, showing good athleticism and feel for the game.  He shows enormous upside behind the plate. He ranged from a 2.01-2.06 on his pop times as a 2028 grad.  At the plate, Scott shows off plus bat speed for his age, and some power.  He still has some work to do with the swing, but all the tools are there for him to be an impact bat.  Scott still has another year before High School, but he will be one to keep an eye on
