Illinois Daily Roundup: March 11

Yesterday, Monday, March 11, might not be the first true day of spring, but it may as well have because the Illinois high school baseball is off and running. The weather was expectedly chilly for baseball, but it was nice to see the return of baseball nonetheless. Throughout the spring we'll be posting Daily Roundups with scores across the state. In addition to area high school's beginning their seasons, keep an eye out for box scores coming from the third annual Metro East Kickoff Classic, sponsored by PBR, that starts tomorrow and runs through Saturday.

No. 8 Lincoln Way-East 11, Hoffman Estates 1
Cole Kirschsieper struck out five in two innings of work while Sean McLaughlin, Josh Ralston and Jack Moylan all got work in out of the bullpen for Lincoln-Way East. Cael Geijer paced the offense with three hits, including a triple and a run scored. Ryan McCoy had two hits, a double and four RBI in the win.
Barron Collier (FL) 4, No. 10 Normal University 3
The Pioneers were held to just three hits in the loss to Barron Collier (FL). Parker Mathieson had a double and a run in the loss. Nate Hardman went four innings allowing one earned run and striking out four in the loss.
