NONCONFERENCE

S. ILLINOIS RIVER-RIVER CROSSOVER

Benton 5, Carterville 2
Benton (2-0) scored two runs in the first inning and won the SIRR crossover at Benton City Park. Ranger starting and winning pitcher Augustus Wilkes (1-0) fired a three-hitter. Chase Owens singled and picked up the only Ranger RBI. Gibbs and Dillan Chamness each had doubles for Benton.

NONCONFERENCE

Aurora Central Catholic 23, IMSA 0
ACC (1-0) crushed overmatched IMSA in Aurora, behind a combined one-hit shutout from Matt Rahn (1-0) and freshman Sean Sinisko. Chris Saltijeral hit a home run that did not leave the premises at ACC; a dinger of the inside-the park variety. Jared Smith led the Charger attack with three hits. 

Chicago Christian 13, Rich South 0
Chicago Christian (2-0) scored four runs in the second and nine runs in the fourth inning as Knight pitchers combined for their second consecutive shutout in Chicago Christian’s home-opener.  

Effingham St. Anthony 7, Mount Zion 5
Effingham St. Anthony (1-0) scored a pair of runs in the fourth and the fifth to erase a 5-3 Mount Zion (0-1) lead to win its season-opener in Effingham on Tuesday. Trailing 5-4 in the fourth, Jim Kabbes tied the game with a clutch RBI single to center. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Will Clausius ripped a two-run double to give the Bulldogs the lead. Kyle Bourgeois slammed the door on Mount Zion (0-1), with two hitless inning to nail down the save for winning pitcher Zach Gardewine (1-0).  

Eureka 8, Lexington 3
Eureka (2-0) erupted for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase a 3-2 Minuteman lead. The Hornets tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth and Nik Bell nailed down the save for Hornet winning pitcher Nick Lind (1-0). In the bottom of the fifth, Andrew Hoelscher’s booming double tied the game at 3-3. Andrew Streit’s two-out, two-run single to right, turned out to be the game-winning hit for the Hornets.

Evanston 13, Ridgewood 0
Russell Snapp (1-0), Zach Anderson and Dylan Mulvihill combined for a one-hit shutout and Miles Porter drove in three runs as Evanston (1-0) crushed the Rebels on Tuesday. Charlie Maxwell chipped in with a pair of RBI for the ‘Kits.

Schaumburg 3, Jacobs 1
One hit was enough for Schaumburg (1-0) as the Saxons stunned the Golden Eagles in the season-opener for both schools. The Saxons picked up two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to erase a 1-0 Jacobs lead and cruised to the victory. Six Jacobs pitchers each pitched an inning with Brenden Heiss (0-1), the hard-luck losing pitcher.   

Morris 7, Wilmington 2
Morris (1-0) scored three times in the first inning and rolled past the host Wildcats in the season-opener for both clubs.

Reavis 5, Immaculate Conception 3
Reavis (1-0) exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth, to break up a scoreless tie and roll past  Immaculate Conception (1-1) in Elmhurst. Anthony Wojciekowski’s RBI single to center put the Rams on the board with the first run of the game. Ram leadoff man Noah Montalto’s booming double to left gave the Rams a 3-0 lead. Ram starting and winning pitcher Lael Robles (1-0) struck out an even dozen Knight batters to pick up the win on the mound for Reavis.  

Stanford Olympia 6, Tri-Valley 0
Stanford Olympia (1-0) blanked Tri-Valley behind a combined three-hit shutout from Blade Mathews (1-0), Clayton Willis, Austin Bruner, Cam Litwiller. Mathews went the first four allowing the three hits, with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Lucas Smith had a pair of singles and an RBI to lead the Spartan attack.

Taylorville 11, Morrisonville 10
The Tornadoes (1-0) almost blew an 11-7 lead withstanding a three-run seventh from the hosts of Morrisonville, in the season-opener for both schools. Alex Brockamp led the Mohawks with a 3-for-4 day with two RBI.

West Frankfort 15, Carbondale 5
West Frankfort (1-0) crushed the Terriers in the season-opener for both clubs in Frankfort. Carbondale led 5-3, when the Redbirds tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the third and then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away. John Nance led Carbondale (0-1) with a pair of singles and RBI.
