NON-CONFERENCE

Carlyle 6, Mascoutah 4
The Carlyle Indians (1-0), scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, to break up a 4-4 tie and went on to defeat the Mascoutah Indians (0-1) on Thursday. Ryan Rakers singled to left to lead off the fateful fourth and Grant Carman (2-for-2, 2R, RBI) would score the lead run on a Mascoutah miscue. Later in the inning, Rakers scored an insurance run on a wild pitch. Ricky Huge (1-0) shut down Mascoutah (1-1) with four hitless innings of relief, with four strikeouts to pick up the win.   

Geneseo 11, Orion 1
Geneseo (2-0) crushed Orion behind Bo Lindstrom and Greg Rusk. Lindstrom had three hits, including a double, scored two runs and drove two more in. Rusk had a single and plated three Maple Leaf runs. Ian VanHerzeele (1-0) and Alex Christenson combined for a two-hitter. VanHerzeele allowed one hit with five strikeouts in his three innings of work to pick up the win. Christenson allowed an unearned run and a hit with four strikeouts in two innings of relief to nail down the Maple Leaf victory. 

No. 36 Glenbrook South 2, Leyden 1
Glenbrook South (1-0) slipped past the Eagles in Northlake behind a combined one-hitter from Fitz Stadler, Mike Arkema and Rob Nelson. Arizona State-bound Stadler (1-0), allowed the hit and an unearned run, while striking out seven to pick up the win. With the score tied at 1-1, Jordan Libman singled to lead off the top of the fourth and scored the eventual game-winner on a successful squeeze bunt from George Karavidas. Karavidas’ sac-fly plated the other Titan run in the second.

Hampshire 11, Belvidere North 1 (5 innings)
Hampshire (1-0) turned the lights out on North scoring five times in the bottom of the fourth  and adding four more runs in the bottom of the fifth ending the contest. Tristyn Ross doubled and drove in three runs, while Tyler Schutt had three hits, scored three runs and drove one in. Alex Kriniagan allowed one unearned run and five hits in his 4.1 innings of work on the mound to pick up the win.

Illiana Christian 7, Shepard 0
Illiana Christian (1-0) blanked the Astros in Palos Heights, in the season-opener for both clubs. Four Viking pitchers combined for the three-hit shutout with starting pitcher Kyle Schaaf (1-0) picking up the victory. Tony Lucito singled and had two RBI, while Schaaf helped himself with an RBI single.

Johnsburg 12, Round Lake 2
Johnsburg (1-1) rolled behind Ryan Kordik, Kordik, doubled, scored three runs and drove home a pair for the Skyhawks.  

Lisle 9, Walther Christian 6
Trailing 6-3 after four innings in Melrose Park, Lisle (1-0) rallied to win its season-opener for both schools. Christian Greco led the Lion attack with a single, two doubles and two RBI. Both Drew English and Ryan Joyce doubled and plated a pair for Lisle.

Marist 11, Lincoln-Way Central 2
Marist (1-0) scored seven runs in the first inning and rolled past Lincoln-Way Central (0-2) in Mount Greenwood on Thursday. Eric Hansen hit a solo shot among his two hits for the Redhawks. Zack Sefcik singled, doubled and drove home a run as well. Pat Meehan (1-0) allowed one hit in his four spotless innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. 

Montini 6, Willowbrook 3

Montini (1-0) scored five times in the bottom of the second inning and went on to defeat rival Willowbrook in Lombard on Thursday. Kyle Jackson went deep for the Broncos while Cooper Hines singled and drove home two Montini runs. Sean Frontzak (1-0) allowed two unearned runs and two hits in his 5.1 innings of work to pick up the win.  

No. 10 Nazareth Academy 14, Stagg 7 (6 innings)
Nazareth Academy (1-0) outslugged the Chargers in La Grange Park in the Roadrunners season-opener. The Roadrunners pounded out 16 hits led by Brandon Bossard and Matt Wilson. Bossard had a single, double and drove home four runs, while Wilson was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI. Matt Flach (4-for-4, 2 2B, 2R, RBI) and Joey Muscolino (3-for-3,4 runs),also had perfect days at the plate. Stagg (0-1) was led by Josh Nowak who had three hits, including a double and two RBI.

No. 38 Notre Dame 8, No. 33 Prospect 3
Notre Dame (1-0) opened its season with a big victory at Heritage Park in Wheeling. The Dons pounded out 11 hits and were led by Notre Dame-bound Sam Ferri, who had three hits, including a double with 2 BRI. UW-Milwaukee bound older brother Mike Ferri, tripled among his three hits, scored three runs and drove home a Don run. LHP Scott Kutschke looked sharp earning the win pitching two perfect innings striking out four.

Palatine 4, Highland Park 0
Palatine (1-1) blanked the Giants behind a combined four-hit shutout from Pat Seeburger and Charlie Van Dyke. Seeburger (1-0) fired five shutout innings allowing three hits to pick up the win. Van Dyke nailed down the victory with two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.

No. 13 Prairie Ridge 5, Lake Zurich 1
Bradley-bound Ben Cilano (1-0) fired four no-hit innings with five strikeouts and Jake Carpentier and BYU-bound Dustin Thelander had RBI as Prairie Ridge (1-0) won its season-opener. After the Wolves scored the first run of the game in the second on a Bear miscue, Carpentier ripped a double scoring Matt Mohapp, who had reached on the miscue. In the third, Thelander singled home the Wolves third run of the game.

Reavis 11, Thornwood 3 (5 innings)
After Thornwood (0-1) scored three runs in the top of the first, Reavis (2-0) scored 11 runs, in the bottom of the first. Both school’s pitchers put goose eggs on the scoreboard the rest of the way at Czarnecki Field in Burbank. Erris Smith led the Rams with three hits, including a double and two RBI.Alex Buentello put the Thunderbird fire out in the first and fired 2.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Rockford Boylan 1, Marian Central Catholic 0
In a classic season-opening pitcher’s duel, Rockford Boylan (1-0) outlasted the Hurricanes, in Rockford on Thursday.The game went to the bottom of the seventh, a scoreless tie. With one out, Sam Rinaldo and Peyton Durst singled. Anthony Graziano courtesy ran for Rinaldo. Alec Ciaccio reached on a MCC error to load the bases. Andy Cropp hit a fly ball to center which was misplayed and Graziano danced home with the Titan game-winner. Durst (1-0) fired three scoreless innings to pick up the win on the mound in relief of Boylan starter Ian Parentice, who fired four hitless innings with five strikeouts. Marian Central Catholic (0-1) starting pitcher Kolton Rominski fired six scoreless innings for the Hurricanes allowing just one hit.

Romeoville 4, Tinley Park 2
Romeoville (1-0) behind David Rodriguez, won its season-opener in Romeoville on Thursday. Rodriguez singled, tripled and drove home all four Spartan runs. Starting and winning pitcher Josh Krueger (1-0), fired three hitless innings with three strikeouts to pick up the win. 

Salem 7, Benton 3
Salem (1-1) bounced back from its heart-breaking defeat to Mount Vernon on Wednesday by stunning Benton (2-1). Wildcat starting and winning pitcher Sedrick Hill (1-0) scattered six hits and one earned run in his 5.2 innings of work to pick up the win. Colton Harness homered and drove in two Wildcat runs. Augustus Gibbs went deep for Benton.
