No. 18 Brother Rice 6, No. 2 Lincoln-Way North 0
Brother Rice (2-1) couldn’t handle No.1 Joliet Catholic Academy on Friday in Joliet but they sure handled No 2. Lincoln-Way North (0-1) in Frankfort on Saturday. Indianapolis University-bound RHP Mike Schalasky (1-0) allowed four hits in his six shutout innings of work to pick up the win. Schalasky had six punchouts. Pat Smith pitched a scoreless seventh for the Crusaders to complete the combined four-hit shutout. Schalasky helped himself at the plate with a single and an RBI. Ryan Kutt also singled and had an RBI for Rice. L-W North’s Arizona State-bound RHP Liam Jenkins (0-1) allowed four runs, two earned, in his 2.1 innings of work and took the loss.

No. 25 Peoria Notre Dame 3, No. 5 O’Fallon 1
Peoria Notre Dame (1-0) rallied for two runs in the top of sixth to break up a 1-1 tie and went on to stun the Panthers at Blazier Park. Bradley University-bound Jake Hurst singled to lead off the inning and went to second on an error. Hurst streaked home with the eventual game winning single off the bat of junior Bryce Hinton. The Fighting Irish picked up an insurance run another Panther miscue. Junior RHP Truman Ralph (1-0) went the distance for PND, allowing one run and scattering nine hits. East Carolina-bound RHP Chris Holba (1-1) allowed three runs and five hits in his five innings of work and suffered the defeat for O’Fallon (1-1).

No. 5 O’Fallon 12, Harrisburg 0
O’Fallon (2-1) blasted the Bulldogs behind SIU-bound Bradley Harrison at Blazier Field in O’Fallon. The future Saluki Harrison went 3-for-3 with two bombs, a single and six RBI, to lead the Panther attack and for good measure fired a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts to pick up the win.  Kyle Van Beveren chipped in with a double and two RBI.   

No. 4 St. Rita 11, No. 47 Glenbrook North 1
St. Rita (3-0) scored three times in the second and then explode for six runs in the third to finish off the Spartans at 7740 South Western Avenue. Shane Peisker and Estaban Martinez led the Mustang attack. Peisker, the Naval Academy-bound outfielder, had two singles, a triple and an RBI. Martinez, was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Junior Mateo Zunica chipped in with a single and two RBI. University of Tennessee-bound RHP Tyler Halas (1-0) allowed a run and three hits in his four innings of work on the mound, to pick up the win.

No. 36 Glenbrook South 6, No. 29 Oak Park 0
Glenbrook South (2-0) smashed the Huskies behind George Karavidas and John Tallis. Karavidas fired five no-hit innings at the Huskies and Tallis had a double and two big Titan RBI. Connor Pauly fired two scoreless innings allowing two hits, to wrap up the Titan win.

No. 3 Mount Carmel 13, Highland Park 2
Mount Carmel (2-0) scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth, to blow this one open. Chicago State-bound Malik Carpenter, led the Caravan attack with two singles and three RBI. Missouri-bound AJ Lewis added a pair of singles, runs scored and RBI. Michigan-bound Ako Thomas doubled in a pair of runs while Valparaiso-bound Scott Kapers chipped in with a single and two RBI. Aaryn Chandler fired two hitless innings in relief of Caravan winning pitcher, lefty Mike Lorenzi (1-0).

No. 4 St  Rita 10, Morton West 1
St. Rita (2-0) scored four in the first and four in the second inning, to put this one to bed early at 7740 South Western Avenue. It was the Tyler Halas Show, as the University of Tennessee-bound Halas fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Halas singled, doubled and launched a shot that left the premises at Rita and drove in four Mustang runs. Junior RHP Max Franklin (1-0) allowed one run and two hits in his six quality innings, to pick up the win on the mound.  

No. 8 Edwardsville 16, Bethalto Civic Memorial 1
Edwardsville (1-0) hammered Civic Memorial as Parkland College-bound Dan Lloyd (1-0) allowed two hits in his three scoreless innings to pick up the season-opening win. Fellow Parkland College-bound Matthew Zielonko took care of the Tiger offense. Zielonko doubled, homered, scored three runs and plated three for Edwardsville

No. 10 Nazareth Academy 10, St. Edward 0
Nazareth Academy (2-0) rolled past the Green Wave behind Matt Wilson. Wilson (1-0) fired four shutout innings allowing two hits to pick up the Roadrunner win. Junior Kyle Kane went deep, doubled and plated a pair of Roadrunner runs. Ryan Kramer chipped in with a single and a double.

No. 12 Metamora 13, Delevan 0

Metamora (3-0) cruised to its third consecutive win of the season behind University of Arizona-Bound Trent Johnson and Jake Guede. Johnson singled, homered (his second on the year) and drove in three Redbird runs. Guede singled and had three more RBI to give him eight on the young season. Illinois Central College-bound 2B Brady Fairchild was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Indiana State-bound LHP Geremy Guerrero (1-0) allowed a hit with three strikeouts in his two scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Evanston 10, No. 13 Prairie Ridge 4
Evanston (2-0) stunned the 13th-ranked Wolves with a 10-run second and coasted to the huge Wildkit win. Ben Wilson led the ‘Kits with a single and three RBI while Miles Porter added a single and two RBI. Mark Roth was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Russell Snapp (1-0) allowed just two hits in his three scoreless innings of work on the mound to pick up the win.

No. 16 Alton 10, Murphysboro 0 Game One

Alton (1-0) opened up its 2015 campaign in style routing the Red Devils, Behind University of Missouri-bound RHP Bryan Hudson and Jake Kanallakan. The 6-foot-8 Hudson struck out six in his two scoreless innnings of work to pick up the win. Kanallakan, doubled, tripled and drove home three Redbird runs. Matt Hopkins tripled and had two RBI and sophomore Steve Nguyen also singled and plated two Redbird runs.

No. 16 Alton 12, Murphysboro 2 Game Two

Alton (1-0) crushed the Red Devils at Gordon Moore Park in Alton in game two to sweep the nonconference twin-bill.The Redbirds exploded for seven runs in the third inning to roll to victory. Junior Jake Kanallakan had a pair of singles and three RBI.to complete a 4-for-5 day at the plate with six ribbies. Sophomore Steve Nguyen chipped in with a pair of singles, runs scored and RBI while sophomore RHP Nick Cauley (1-0) picked up the win in the mound.   


No. 24 Cary-Grove 15, Ottawa 0

Cary Grove (2-0-1) scored six runs in the fourth and six runs in the seventh in Ottawa on Saturday. The Trojans pounded out 17 hits, led by UIC-bound catcher Wyatt Mascarella. The future Flames receiver fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, having singled, doubled, homered and drove home five runs for C-G. Nick Franz and Dan Schmidt combined for a three-hit shutout. Franz (1-0) allowed two hits in his four innings of work while Schmidt punched-out five in his three, one-hit innings of work. Connor Leach had three hits and two RBI and Matt Sutherland chipped in with two singles, three runs scored and two RBI.

No. 26 Lincoln-Way West 10, Bremen 0
Lincoln-Way West (1-0) crushed Bremen, in the Warriors season-opener at home in New Lenox. Five Warrior pitchers all pitched an inning for head coach Jake Zajc, with Rose-Hulman-bound Trevor Dalillo (1-0) picking up the win. Bremen (3-1) had two hits. Kyle Cravens led the Warrior attack with a perfect 3-for-3 day with a run scored and an RBI. Dalilo helped himself at the plate with a single and two RBI.  

Normal U-High 5, No. 28 Carmel 4
Normal U-High (1-0) won in walk-off fashion at Lenz Field in Jacksonville on Saturday. Trailing Carmel (1-1) 4-2, heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Pioneers scored three times to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat

Peoria Richwoods 2, No. 28 Carmel 1

No. 37 Mundelein 12, Lake View 1
Mundelein (2-0) crushed their guests from Chicago, behind senior CF Sam Osisek. Osisek was 3-for-3 with a bomb, a double and plated three Mustang runs. Nick Striker was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles while junior RHP Reese Dolan (1-0) picked up the win on the mound.

No. 39 Normal West 11, Oak Forest 3
Normal West (1-0) opened up the season by pounding the Bengals in Normal. UIC-bound Reid Birlingmair and seniors Cody Rodgers and Evan Mucciolo launched bombs that left the premises at West. Rogers added a double and drove home four Wildcat runs. Birlingmair (1-0) fired two hitless innings on the mound with four strikeouts to pick up the win. Birlingmair and Mucciolo each plated a pair of runs for West. Genia Fuss had a perfect 2-for-2 game with two ribbies, while Mitch Fairfield had three hits, including a double and an RBI.

No. 48 Rockford Boylan 7, No. 49 McHenry

Rockford Boylan (3-0) scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to break up a 2-2 tie and go on to win for the third consecutive time. Junior Alec Ciaccio RBI single to center put the Titans up 3-2. Nick Nalewanski followed with an RBI single and two clutch two-out RBI singles from Ryan Stanicek and Max Maney broke open the contest. Maney (1-0) allowed two runs and five hits, with seven strikeouts, in his six innnings of work to pick up the win on the mound. Stanicek had a 1-2-3 seventh to wrap up the win.

Aurora Central Catholic 5, Hinckley-Big Rock 1
ACC (2-0) rolled past the Royals on Saturday behind Jake Smith. Smith (1-0) allowed one unearned run and one hit in his four solid innings of work to pick up the Charger win on the mound. Jared Smith went deep for ACC and Ryan Poplowski doubled home a pair of Charger runs. John Belskis chipped in with a n RBI for ACC. On Thursday, “The Guru” will be in Lisle for the Chargers battle with the Lions at 4:30

Bartlett 9, Elk Grove 0

Bartlett (1-0) hammered the Grenadiers behind Trip Paris and Cameron Mayes. Paris (1-0) fired a one-hitter facing one batter over the limit. The right-hander struck out three and did not walk a batter. Paris helped himself at the plate too with a huge three-run bomb. Mays, the Hawk leadoff-man, had three singles three runs scored and three RBI. Myles Zilinsky singled, tripled and plated a pair of Hawk runs. 

Burlington Central 11, Crystal Lake Central 1
Burlington Central (1-0) opened the 2015 campaign with a six-inning romp over the Tigers at Rocket Hill. Max Judnic hit a three-run bomb in the seventh and drove in four runs to lead the Rocket attack. Andy Lauber had three hits, including a double with two runs scored and an RBI. Kevin Jerger (1-0) allowed a run and two hits in his 3.2 innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. Jerger fanned four Tiger batters.

Crystal Lake South 11, Immaculate Conception 2
The Gators bounced back from their heart-breaking loss to Boylan and took it out on IC (1-3) on Saturday morning in Elmhurst. Crystal Lake South (1-1) was led by Garrett Bright who had three hits, including his first round-tripper of the season, scored three runs and had four RBI. Nick Van Witzenburg chipped in with two singles, two runs scored and an RBI. Matt Schingel (1-0) allowed two runs and two hits in his four innings of work to pick up the win on the mound.

DeKalb 4, Belvidere 1
DeKalb (3-0) defeated Belvidere (1-2) behind Tyler Morris. Morris (1-0) fired five shutout innings allowing just two hits to pick up the win on the mound. Danny Garcia had three hits, including a double and an RBI for the Barbs while Logan Haring had two singles and scored and plated a Barb run.

Dunlap 16, Brimfield 4

Dunlap (1-1) bounced back from an opening day loss to Eureka and crushed Brimfield in five innngs. The Eagles scored six runs in the third inning and finished off the contest with seven runs in the fifth inning. Luke Mangieri fell a homer shy of hitting for the cycle, scoring three runs and driving in five more to lead the Eagle onslaught.

Elgin 13, Rockford Jefferson 0
Elgin (1-2) blanked Jefferson behind a combined three-hit shutout from Scotty Palmer (1-0) and Will Welch. Palmer fired four shutout innings for the Maroons allowing three hits with eight strikeouts. Mike Gonzales and Dean Anderson led the Maroon attack with two hits and three RBI.

Brimfield 6, Eureka 5
Brimfield (1-1) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun Eureka (2-1) on Saturday. Seth Burger led Eureka with three hits, including a double and two RBI.

Eureka 4, Dunlap 3
After losing in walk-off fashion to Brimfield earlier in the day Eureka (3-1) won in walk-off fashion in the Eagles second game of the day. Trailing 3-1 as the game headed to the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles rallied to victory. Nic Bell (3-for-3, 2R, RBI) singled, with the bases loaded to bring the Eagles within 3-2. Wade Gregorie waked with the bases loaded to tie the game at 3-3. Aaron Schmidgall (1-for-3, SF, 2RBI) won it with a sac-fly as Bell danced home with the Eagle winner.

Freeburg 17, Granite City 8
Freeburg (1-0) outslugged the Warriors in its season-opener in Granite City. The Midgets, were led by Cody Siebenberger, who was 3-for-3 with a double, four runs scored and four RBI. Keegan Baxmeyer had two singles and plated three runs while Derrick Rozycke singled and had three RBI for the Midgets. Granite City (2-1) was led by BJ Niesporek who was 2-fo-2 with a double and two RBI.

Geneseo 10, Rock Falls 7 Game One
Geneseo won on a 27-yard field-goal with no-time left on the clock. Whoops! Wrong sport. In a score the legendary Maple Leaf football program wins by, Geneseo (3-0) outslugged Rock Falls in game one. The Maple Leafs scored four times in the top of the seventh, to erase a 7-6 Rocket lead to win.Bo Lindstrom (2-for-3, 2R, 2RBI) tied the game at 7-7 with his RBI single to center. With the bases loaded, Kyle Gilmore (3-for-4, 2B, 3RBI) hammered a bases-clearing double to give the Maple Leafs a 10-7 lead. Lindstrom (1-0) mowed down the Rockets in the seventh completing his second hitless inning of relief to pick up the win on the mound.

Geneseo 17, Rock Falls 13 (9 innings)  Game Two
More football (baseball) action at Rock Falls in game two. Geneseo (4-0) scored four times in the top of the ninth, to complete the sweep of Rock Falls. The two clubs combined for 30 runs and 32 hits in another football-score game. Greg Rusk and Jake Van Doren led the 21-hit Maple Leaf attack. Rusk had five singles, scored three runs and had five RBI. Van Doren, went deep, had two doubles, scored three runs and also plated five Maple Leaf runs.

Herscher 13, Crete-Monee 3 Game One

Herscher (1-0) opened up its 2015 in Crete by pounding out 13 runs and 16 hits, routing the host Warriors. Tyler Fisher led the Tiger onslaught with a 4-for-4 day including a double and drove in a pair of Tiger runs.Fisher (1-0) also allowed one earned run in three innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. Austin Jarnigan had three hits including a double and also plated a pair of Tiger runs

Herscher 8, Crete-Monee 5 Game Two
Trailing Crete-Monee (0-2) 4-1, after four innings of play in game two, the host Warriors became very charitable to their guests from Herscher (2-0). In the top of the fifth, the Tigers scored six runs in the inning. The Tigers scored three runs to tie the game up at 4-4, all on wild pitches. The Tigers took the lead 5-4 on a Warrior miscue and Brigham Haase made it 6-4 with the only Tiger hit of the inning, an RBI single with the bases loaded. Austin Jarnigan walked, forcing in the final run of the Warrior gift-wrapped inning.  

Joliet West 5, Yorkville 0

Joliet West (1-0) blanked the Foxes behind Robert Talarico and Griffin McGuire. Talarico (1-0) fired five scoreless innings allowing just one hit with five strikeouts. McGuire doubled, tripled and plated a pair of Tiger runs. Tiger leadoff man Cody Grosse chipped in with two singles, a run scored and an RBI.  

Libertyville 5, St. Viator 4
Libertyville (2-0) rallied past the Lions in Libertyville on Saturday. Trailing 4-3 as the game headed to the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats bats awoke. Jake Vogt (2-for-2, 2R) singled to lead off the inning. Chase Patterson walked. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Riley Lee’s sac-fly would score Vogt with the tying run. With two out, Ben Manski’s booming double plated Patterson with the eventual game-winner. Charlie Murphy (1-0) slammed the door on the Lions in the top of the seventh to pick up the win on the mound.     

Maine South 5, Marmion 0
Maine South (1-0) opened up the 2015 season, behind a combined one-hit shutout from Hank Schau (1-0) and Brandon Ranieri. Schau fired five no-hit innings to pick up the win with five strikeouts. Ranieri allowed the hit but shutout the Cadets over the last two innings to preserve the shutout. Caleb DeMarigny and Phil Bork led the Hawks attack with two hits and an RBI, each.

Marmion 6, Jacksonville 3
Marmion (1-2) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held on to defeat the host Crimson at Lenz Field in Jacksonville. Will Matthews had a pair of singles and an RBI while Edgar Sanchez tripled and drove home a run to lead the Cadets. Garrett Hiles (1-0) allowed a run and three hits in his 5.1 innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. Hiles fanned seven Jacksonville (2-1) batters.

Manteno 5, Reavis 1
Manteno (3-0) rolled past the Rams behind Jack Morgan and Kyle Mansfield. Morgan (1-0) allowed an unearned run and two hits in his six solid innings to pick up the win. Mansfield had a single and plated two Panther runs.  

Monticello 5, Carbondale 4

Monticello (4-0) stole one from the Terriers in Carbondale on Saturday. With Carbondale (0-3) leading 4-3 in the top of the seventh, the Sages struck. Nathan Mundy singled and Ryne Bundy walked, both runners moved up on a wild pitch to second and third. Mundy scored the lead run and Bundy move to third on another wild pitch with David Vanderkloot at the plate. Vanderkloot walked and Bundy pulled off a double steal, adding an insurance run when Bundy stole home. Matt Wittig mowed down the Terriers in the bottom of the seventh to nail down the save for Konnor Bundy (1-0) who picked up the win 

Morton 6, Stanford Olympia 4 Game One
Morton (1-0) trailed the Spartans 4-2 as the game went to the top of the seventh in Stanford. The Potters exploded for four big runs to open the 2015 campaign in dramatic fashion. Collin Moorman had a double and two big RBI while Dan Bolt singled, tripled and plated a Potter run. Adam Christanson (1-0) struck out all six Spartan batters he faced to pick up the win on the mound.

Morton 7, Stanford Olympia 3 Game Two
Morton (2-0) swept away the Spartans behind Dan Bolt and Collin Moorman. Bolt had a pair of doubles and drove home three Potter runs while Moorman was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Mitch Smith (1-0) picked up the win on the mound allowing one run and four innings in his four innings of work.

Oswego 5, Plano 1
Oswego (1-0) won its season-opener behind Colton White and Brandon Olson. Both White and Olson had a single and two RBI to lead the Panther attack. On the mound, Carter Turnquist and White combined for a three-hitter. Turnquist (1-0) allowed one run and two hits with seven strikeouts in four innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. White fired three scoreless innings allowing one hit to pick up the save.

Palatine 3, Leyden 0
Palatine (2-1) blanked the Eagles behind a combined four-hit shutout from Ryan Anderson (1-0) and Chris Refka. Anderson went the first five innings allowing all four hits and striking  out five. Refka fired two hitless innings, striking out four.

Plainfield Central 9, West Chicago 1 Game One
In  a “Battle of the Wildcats, Plainfield Central (2-0) rolled past WEGO behind a combined six-hitter from Zach Pirc (1-0) and Jimmy Layne. Pirc fired four shutout innings allowing four hits with five strikeouts to pick up the win. Layne allowed a run and two hits, with three strikeouts. Ramsey Mallory, Jr had a triple and two RBI to lead the Wildcat attack. Austin Blazevic chipped in with a double and an RBI

Plainfield Central 19, West Chicago 5 Game Two
Plainfield Central (3-0) trounced the West Chicago Wildcats in game two to complete the nonconference sweep. Brandon Calendar led the Wildcat attack in game two, with a single, double and four RBI. Zack Hoghton chipped in with three hits, including a double and three RBI.

Reed-Custer 5, Grant Park 1 Game One

Reed-Custer (1-1) rolled past Grant Park behind Brett Headrick and Josh Bull. Headrick (1-0) had 10 punchouts in his four innings of work on the mound allowing just two hits to pick up the win. Bull had two singles and an RBI while Mason Dransfeld plated a pair of Comet runs.  

Reed-Custer 10, Grant Park 3 Game Two
The Comets scored seven times in the first inning and cruised to the game two sweep. Reed-Custer (2-1) was led by Mason Dransfeld who singled, doubled and had two RBI. Hunter Murawski chipped in with a single and two RB I.

Richards 9, Rich Central 0
Richards opened up the 2015 season blanking the Olympians behind Nick Mejia and Ryan Renken. Mejia (1-0) fired six shutout innings at RC (1-3) allowing just one hit while striking out seven. Renken was 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.

Rockford Lutheran 4, Okawville 0
Rockford Lutheran (3-0) blanked Okawville behind a four-hit shutout from Parker Johnson (2-0). Johnson struck out three and did not walk a batter. Johnson provided the only run he would need when he went deep in the fourth inning. Justin Woolbright chipped in with a double and an RBI.

Rockford Lutheran 7, Nashville 2
Rockford Lutheran (4-0) blasted the Hornets behind Johnny Sanchez and Nick Todaro. Sanchez (1-0) went the distance and fired a five-hitter with 10 punchouts. Todaro led the Crusader attack with two singles and three RBI. Justin Woolbright chipped in with two hits and two RBI.

St. Francis 11, Lisle 0
St. Francis (1-0) routed Lisle (1-1) behind a five RBI effort from Nick Dama. Dama hammered a three-run bomb to highlight the Spartans five-run second. Jason Sullivan (1-0) allowed one hit in his 4.2 shutout innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. Sullivan fanned seven and helped himself at the plate with a double and an RBI. Jake Radl and Will Purdom each added two hits and two RBI for the Spartans.

Stagg 4, Romeoville 3
Stagg (1-1) rolled past the Spartans behind Max Downs and Nate Miranda. Miranda (1-0) allowed one unearned run and four hits in his six stellar innings of work on the mound to pick up the win. Downs had two hits and an RBI to lead the Charger attack. 

Walther Christian 12, Rauner Academy 2 Game One

Walther Christian (1-2) rolled past the Broncos’ guests from Chicago in Melrose Park on Saturday. It was the Ean Eichert Show as the senior singled, tripled and went deep for the Broncos driving in five big runs. Junior Charlie Pollnitz allowed two hits in his stellar five innings of work on the mound to pick up the win  

Walther Christian 6, Rauner Academy 4 Game Two
The Broncos evened up their record at 2-2 and swept away Rauner in game two behind Frankie Garcia and Joey Scudiero. Trailing 4-0 after one inning the Broncos scored the last six runs of the game. Scudiero’s double with the bases loaded brought the Broncos within 4-2 in the fifth. With the scored tied 4-4, Garcia came through with a game-winning two-run single in the bottom of the sixth. Garcia (1-0) shut down Rauner in the seventh to pick up the win on the mound.

Wilmington 6, Clifton Central 1 Game One

Wilmington (1-1) evened up its record with a solid win at home on Saturday. Alex Zlomie led the Wildcat offense with two singles and three RBI. Derek Kirchner chipped in with a double and two RBI while Dillan Tjelle (1-0) allowed one unearned run and two hits in six innings on the mound to pick up the win. Tjelle had nine punchouts.  

Wilmington 17, Clifton Central 4 Game Two
Wilmington (2-1) swept away Clifton Central in five innings in game two. The ‘Cats scored four times in the first inning and then put a 12-spot on the board in the second to end this contest early. Sam Lachtara went 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Wilmington attack. Austin Headrick, Brett McWilliams, RJ Van Duyne and Derek Kirchner all drove in a pair of Wildcat runs.
