Indiana College Baseball Roundup: Ball State on 4 Game Win Streak, ISU Picks up Win over No.1 Vandy

Cold and snowy weather conditions throughout the country limited the number of games played this past week.  However, most of the D1 schools who played down south were able to get some games in. Below is a recap of last week's results.

BALL STATE (4-2) 

2/21 vs High Point (Aiken, SC): W 6-3

2/21 vs Elon (Aiken, SC): W 18-8

2/22 vs Elon (Aiken, SC): W 8-3 

The Cardinals have won four in the row after starting out 0-2.  Former Indiana HS standouts doing well for Ball state include; Caleb Stayton (21 AB, .429 BA, 3 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI), Matt Eppers (12 AB, .417 BA, 3 2B, 1 3B), Brendan Burns (1-0, 1.35 ERA, 7 K's, 6.2 IP).

BUTLER (0-6) 

2/20 at Pepperdine: L 6-3

2/21 at Pepperdine: L 3-2

2/21 at Pepperdine: L 9-6 

EVANSVILLE (4-2)

2/21 vs Western Kentucky (Emerson, GA): L 5-3

2/22 at Western Kentucky (Emerson, GA): W 11-10

2/22 at Western Kentucky (Emerson, GA): W 9-8 

The Purple Aces won the series vs. Western Kentucky over the weekend taking two of three.  Former Indiana HS players doing well include; Eric McKibban (26 AB, .346 BA, 4 RBI).

INDIANA (3-3) 

2/20 vs Presbyterian (Greenville, SC): L 5-2

2/21 vs Furman (Greenville, SC) L 6-5

2/22 vs Xavier (Greenville, SC): W 7-6

The Hoosiers started out 0-2 over the weekend, but picked up a win over Xavier on Sunday to put their record at .500.  Former Indiana HS players doing well for I.U. include; Scott Donley (23 AB, .391 BA), Craig Dedelow (21 AB, .286 BA, 1 HR). 

INDIANA STATE (3-3) 

2/20 vs Vanderbilt (Port Charlotte, FL): L 3-2

2/21 vs Vanderbilt (Port Charlotte, FL): W 8-1

2/22 vs Vanderbilt (Port Charlotte, FL): L 6-0 

The Sycamores lost the series vs. defending National Champion Vanderbilt, but did pick up a win against the No. 1 ranked Commodores. Former Indiana HS players doing well include; Tony Rosselli (8 AB, .375 BA, 1 HR, 2 RBI), Landon Curry (28 AB, .321 BA, 2B, 5 RBI), Jeremy McKinney (1-0, 9 Ks, 6.2 IP). 

IPFW (5-2) 

2/21 vs Murray State (Emerson, GA): L 4-1

2/22 vs Murray State (Emerson, GA): W 12-11

2/22 vs Murray State (Emerson, GA) W 20-3 

Former Homestead standout Brandon Soat was named NCAA Player of the week after going 8-12 during Sunday's double header, driving in 10 runs, scoring 8 runs and also hitting a game-winning double in a 12-11 victory.  Former Indiana HS players Jackson Boyce and  Brock Logan along with Soat are hitting well over .400 through seven games.  Boyce (17 AB, .471 BA, 6 RBI), Logan (18 AB, .444 BA, 2 2B, 1 HR, 6 RBI), Soat (30 AB, .467 BA, 3 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 13 RBI).  

NOTRE DAME (7-1)

2/19 vs Incarnate Word (San Antonio, TX): W 14-1

2/20 vs Villanova (San Antonio, TX): W 8-1

2/21 vs Northwestern (San Antonio, TX): W 7-3

2/22 vs Incarnate Word (San Antonio, TX): W 11-1

The Irish are off to a hot start this season.  They swept the Irish Alamo Invitational over the weekend. Former Indiana HS standout pitcher Nick McCarty is doing well for the Irish (2-0, 0.61 ERA, 7 Ks, 14.2 IP).

PURDUE (3-4)

2/20 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi: L 6-2

2/21 vs Sam Houston State (Corpus Christi, TX): W 4-3 

2/21 vs Sam Houston State (Corpus Christi, TX): W 9-7

2/22 vs Missouri (Corpus Christi, TX): L 1-0 

The Boilers went 2-2 this past week, putting their record one game under .500.  Former Indiana HS player Brandon Krieg is doing well this season hitting .379 in 29 AB.
