Inside the Numbers: A Complete Breakdown of Tennessee's 2015 Commitments

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

With the start of the early signing period and many Class of 2015 prospects around the state signing National Letters of Intent today, it seems like an appropriate time to take a more in depth look at the early commitments from Tennessee’s 2015 class.  We will break down the commitments from the class in a number of different ways to provide complete insight into who is going where.  In addition, we will revisit things as we head towards spring to see how things change over the next few months.

There are a total of 75 commitments in our database from Tennessee’s 2015 class.  Here are the commitments by the numbers.

Of the 75 commitments, 59 are to in-state schools and 16 to out of state schools.  To break that down even further, let’s look at how the commitments shake out by division.

44 - Division I commitments
16 - Division II commitments
6 - Division III commitments
5 - Junior college commitments
4 - NAIA commitments

Where are they going?  Here is how the numbers break down by in-state school.

                                                                           Cleveland State (1)

In-State NAIA Commitments

Martin Methodist (1)

Of the 16 out of state commitments, 13 are to Division I schools, one to a Division II school, and two to NAIA schools.  Mississippi is the state with the most out of state commitments with four, followed by Kentucky with three.

What positions are schools getting commitments from for the early signing period?  As you would expect, the numbers are very pitching heavy.

Commitments by Position
26 - RHP
16 - LHP
11 - MIF
9 - C
6 - OF
5 - 3B
2 - 1B

We’ve seen where they are going, but how about where they are coming from?  Several high schools have one commitment, but here we take a look at the high schools who currently have multiple commitments.

Commitments by High School
6 - Hardin Valley (2 Division I)
4 - Collierville (3 Division I)
4 – Farragut (2 Division I)
3 - Christian Brothers (3 Division I)
3- Riverdale (2 Division I)

2 - East Hamilton (0 Division I)

In summary, all of the numbers we have presented will change significantly as class of 2015 players continue to make their commitments over the coming months.  As stated at the beginning of this article, we will revisit this again in the spring to get an updated look inside the numbers of commitments in Tennessee’s 2015 class.
