PBR: Why did you choose UMass?
Smith: I decided to choose UMass because it was the best fit for me academically and athletically and I have a good chance of starting right away.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Smith: URI, and a couple D2 schools.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?
Smith: They first saw me play at a PBR event.

PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Smith: A starting position.

PBR: How excited were you to have your commitment out of the way?
Smith: It was like the world was taken off my shoulders. Huge relief.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Smith: My father.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Smith: Technique Tigers, and in one championship game we were trailing and in the last inning we pulled ahead and won.

PBR: What were your stats last season?
Smith: BA-.468,  HR-6, RBI-58, Hits-53

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in CT?
Smith: Mike Cowell

PBR: How has PBR helped in your recruitment process?
Smith: Without this showcase I wouldn’t have gotten the exposure that I needed to play Division 1.

PBR: Thoughts on this upcoming season?
Smith: Excited.
