Prep Baseball Report

Inside the Recruitment: '16 C Griffin Green commits to Northern Kentucky

PBR: Why did you choose Northern Kentucky?

Green:   I chose Northern Kentucky University because it is a great opportunity to be part of an up and coming DI program that plays a southern schedule.  I also like that it is only four hours away so my family can see me play.  I was also impressed how high the expectations were for their catchers and they had a catcher drafted in the top 20 rounds this year.  It was a fun recruiting process.  I really enjoyed all the coaches and their programs.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Green:  I was considering Eastern Michigan, Oakland, Wright State, High Point and Ohio State.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship develop?

Green:  Coach Asalon and his staff first saw me over the summer in the Cincy Flames Tournament when my summer team played at Northern Kentucky University and then offered shortly after that.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Green:  It feels great to be a part of a Division 1 program because you get to compete against some of the best players and schools in the country.  From talking to other coaches and scouts, the Atlantic Sun Conference is very competitive and has some terrific players each and every year.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Green:  I play for the South Oakland A's.   This year, I plan on playing for the South Oakland A's as well as Ohio Elite.  My most memorable experience was this summer was being invited to tryout for the U17 USA National Development team down in Cary, North Carolina.  It was awesome to meet and play with the Top 300 players in the country and represent your region and possible the country.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Green:  I think a number of people have.  My family has had a great influence on me because of all the sacrifices they have made.  The coaches that influenced me the most are Buster Sundae and Dan Lopaze. They have high expectations and are great teachers who enable me to break down each part of my game. Richie Sparks of Oakland A's has also been terrific teacher and mentor.  They all have given me great tips which allows me to keep working on the little things to keep getting better.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Green: I hit over .300 at Bishop Foley and over .400 this summer for the South Oakland A's
