Inside the Recruitment: '16 INF Landon Stephens commits to Miami

Landon Stephens, INF, Hamilton, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Miami?

Stephens: I chose Miami for multiple reason, the main one being I feel like I grow as a player at Miami due to the upgraded facilities, but also I can get a great education.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Stephens: I was considering Dayton, Austin Peay, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, and Southeast Missouri State.

PBR: Coach Hayden is starting a new era at Miami.  How does it feel to be a part of the Redhawk family?

Stephens: I'm to excited to be a Redhawk, can't wait to get up to Oxford. I also think that the players being brought in this year are very good, and I hope when I get there I can add to the team and we can win some MAC Championship and go to Omaha.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team?

Stephens: My goals individually are to get stronger and faster, but also get better defensively and offensively. My goal for  the team once I get up to Oxford is to bring a mentality of making myself better in the process of making my teammates more hungry to be better. By doing so I hope to make it to Omaha.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Stephens: I play for the Cincinnati Flames and the best most memorable experience was making it to bracket play at WWBA Perfect Game World Series. We were the first ever Flames team to do so.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Stephens: This question is easy, besides God giving me my talents and abilities and playing for him, it's my Dad. He has always helped make me better and made me strive to be the best me I can be on and also off the field. Even though never playing baseball in his life he always has the right answer when I'm doing something wrong at the plate because he has learned for me and my brother. I am so thankful for my Dad having such a huge impact on my baseball career.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

Stephens: I batted .391 leading the GMC in hits with 43, Doubles with 14 and with 3 triples, and coming in second with 4 homeruns. Also being top 5 in rbi's.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?

Stephens: Toughest pitcher I have faced is probably Austin Allinger from Lakota West.
