Austin Eifrid, INF, Lexington HS, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Ashland?

Eifrid: Ashland felt like home to me. After visiting and talking to the coaches, I felt like Ashland was where I would succeed the most, on and off the field. Ashland has an awesome campus.  I also liked knowing that I will have an opportunity to compete for playing time as a freshman.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Eifrid: I have had communications with Walsh, Miami, Ohio University, and WVU throughout the recruiting process.

PBR: Where did the Coach Schaly first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Eifrid: I played for Coach Lee, he spoke with Coach Schaly and Coach Hilt who came to quite a few games this summer. On my visit to Ashland both Coach Schaly and Coach Hilt were very nice and I felt a good connection.  Both coaches made me feel like Ashland was home and I really liked how much dedication and passion they both have for the baseball program Ashland.

PBR: Ashland is making several new upgrades to their baseball facility. How much of a role did that play in your decision?

Eifrid: It was definitely on my mind and something to think about, but not the major decision factor.  My biggest factors for choosing Ashland were Coach Schaly, Coach Hilt, the university itself, and the past success of the baseball program at Ashland University.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team for the rest of your senior season?

Eifrid: This year I am looking forward to being a  team leader, as well as Winning the OCC and making a solid run for Huntington Park!

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?

Eifrid: I played for Coach Lee and the Triple Crown Royals. We won the last game of the summer season with a walk off to win a championship.

PBR: What were your stats for last spring?

Eifrid: .394 BA, .473 OBP, 9 2B, 1 3B, 34R, 16 Stolen Bases.
