Matt Dockman, LHP, Watterson, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Duke?

Dockman: I chose Duke because I believe it is a great fit for me. Duke is a very prestigious school academically, and they play an extremely competitive schedule in the ACC.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Dockman: I was also considering Columbia, Liberty, Wright State, Xavier, Ohio, and Marshall.

PBR: How much did playing down south play a part in your decision?

Dockman: Playing down south played a major role in my decision. All my life it has been a goal of mine to play in the ACC or SEC, and playing in warmer weather definitely is a benefit.

PBR: You participated in PBR’s Futures Games, how did your performance in the event help affect your recruitment?

Dockman: The Future Games were integral in my recruitment. The Future Games provided me a lot of exposure, and Coach Maki first saw me there.

PBR: Duke is a very prestigious school academically.  How much of a challenge will it be to balance both academics and athletics at the same time?

Dockman: It definitely will be a challenge to balance both academics and athletics, but I believe that I am well prepared to handle both. I look forward to the opportunity because I know that my hard work will pay off.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Dockman: I play for the Ohio Elite, and my most memorable experience was participating in the Future Games.

PBR:  What person has the greatest impact on your baseball career and why?

Dockman: My dad has had the greatest impact on my baseball career. He still throws with me almost every night, and he has taught me the mental side of the game. As the talent gap narrows, the mental side becomes increasingly important, and I know that my dad has given me an advantage over others as a result of his efforts.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Dockman: 7-1, 41 2/3 IP, 1.17 ERA, 3 BB, 41 K

PBR: Who is the toughest batter that you have faced?

Dockman: Devin Hairston Jr. who is currently a sophomore at Louisville.
