JUCO Sophomore Spotlight: 3B Jeff Heinrich

Staff Writer

At the end of September, Triton College hosted JUCO’s Region IV Unsigned Sophomore Showcase. Our staff was on-hand to take in Illinois’ and Wisconsin’s top JUCO talent without a destination following their sophomore seasons. With fall workouts in full swing, we’ll start spotlighting some of the local prep talent that’s since emerged into a set of prospects capable continuing their baseball careers beyond their sophomore college campaigns.

We’ll start spotlighting a few of the standout prospects from that event, beginning with 3B Jeff Heinrich (Huntley, 2017; McHenry County) today.

Heinrich played in 20 games as a freshman on Coach Jared Wacker’s squad and, in only 73 at-bats, slugged over .700 and drove in 31 runs in those limited looks – including four home runs and seven doubles. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect was a top-60-ranked prospect in Illinois during his senior season at Huntley prior to graduating. At the Triton College event, Heinrich used a quiet, simple stroke with loose hands and advanced bat strength to muscle line drives around the field. His natural actions at the hot corner, combined with his skills on offense, should make him an interesting commodity following his two-year career as a Scot.
