KY College Prospect Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis

The Kentucky College Prospect Showcase took place on Sunday, August 2 and afforded close to 60 players the opportunity to showcase their abilities.

The following is a look at the group of middle infielders who participated in the event.

Austin Wise, SS, Butler HS, 2017
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, short stride, good balance through contact, shows some quickness in hands, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, solid round of BP consistently squaring the baseball, 81 mph exit velocity off the tee (85 previous event), ran a 7.06 60-yard dash. Shows soft hands with athletic infield actions, moves well with fluid footwork, good body control, high-3/4 release with average arm strength, 75 mph velocity across the infield, solid defender who will likely need arm strength to improve to stay at SS at the next level.

Tyler Graham, SS/RHP, Hopkinsville HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, minimal stride, short swing path with line drive production, shows ability to use all fields well, 81 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 7.21 60-yard dash. Shows soft hands defensively, good lateral movement, good body control with ability to throw from different arm angle on the move, long high-3/4 release with solid arm strength, 81 mph velocity across the infield, most throws accurate.

Zach Wegenast, 2B, Holy Cross HS (Louisville), 2016
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter hits from an open stance and squares up with a long stride, has shown some improvement in use of lower half, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, ran best 60 time to date at 7.35, 81mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively, shows soft hands and fluid footwork, works through the baseball well, good body control, short high-3/4 release with 73 mph velocity across the infield (have seen 79 at previous event), solid defender st second base.

Broc Kuerzi, SS, Ballard HS, 2016
5-foot-7, 180-pound left-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, short stride, uses all fields well, short swing path with line drive production, shows some present bat speed, 83 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 7.92 60-yard dash. Shows soft hands defensively, short high-3/4 release with below average arm strength, 72 mph velocity across the infield with mostly accurate throws, bat is current best tool at this point.

Sam Seahorn, 2B/RHP, Sayre HS, 2017
5-foot-10, 140-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, loads front foot back and takes a short stride, average bat speed, 74 mph exit velocity off the tee, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, lacks finish through the baseball at times, strength gains will benefit offensive game. Shows athletic infield actions, sure hands, short high-3/4 release, accurate throws across the diamond with 76 mph velocity, ran a 7.70 60-yard dash.

Kirk Liebert, 2B, Daviess County HS, 2018
5-foot-9, 130-pound prospect posted a 7.56 60-yard dash, 76 mph arm strength across the infield, and 76 mph exit velocity off the tee. Left-handed hitter hits from an open stance and squares front side with a mid-length stride, shows average bat speed for age, line drive type hitter with a gap to gap approach, offensive game will benefit from additional physical strength. Shows soft hands defensively, average arm strength with a short high-3/4 release, accurate throws across the diamond.

Gabe Sherman, SS, Kentucky Country Day HS, 2017
6-foot, 163-pound prospect posted a 7.59 60-yard dash, 76 mph velocity across the infield, and 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, has an arm bar in load that creates some length to swing, line drive type hitter. Shows average hands defensively, moves well laterally with above average body control, high-3/4 release with average arm strength, accurate throws across the diamond, projects currently as a second baseman at the next level.

Clayton Mehlbauer, SS, Trinity HS, 2017
5-foot-10, 140-pound right-handed hitter hits from an open stance with a long stride, line drive type hitter with a gap to gap approach, average bat speed, 76 mph exit velocity off the tee, offensive  game will continue to develop with strength gains, ran a 7.63 60-yard dash. Shows athleticism defensively, fields ball out front and funnels to body with soft hands, quick exchange with ability to throw from multiple arm angles, accurate throws with 71 mph velocity across the infield.

Bryce Thomas, 2B, Caldwell County HS, 2018
5-foot-9, 140-pound left-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, slight leg kick with a short stride, good balance through contact, slight arm bar in load but has some hand quickness, line drive type hitter with a pull approach, 71 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran 7.54 60-yard dash. Shows average hands, good lateral movement, has a long exchange and tends to pat glove before release, long high-3/4 release with 71 mph velocity across the infield.

Logan Koch, 2B/RHP, Bullitt Central HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, has an arm bar in load causing some length in swing, level swing path, line drive type hitter shows ability to use all fields, 75 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 7.11 60-yard dash. Shows average defensive hands, quick exchange with a short ¾ release, accurate throws, below average arm strength at 70 mph across the infield.

Kevin McKnight, RHP/2B, Bullitt Central HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, mid-length stride, line drive type hitter, showed some bat speed with 82 mph exit velocity off the tee, maintains good balance through contact, ran a 7.20 60-yard dash, Shows soft defensive hands, accurate throws across the infield from a short ¾ to high-3/4 release, 75 mph velocity across the infield.

Easten Shouse, RHP/2B, Madison Southern HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 150-pound right-handed hitter hits from a wide stance, minimal stride, simple and repeatable swing with a short path to the ball, shows ability to use all fields, line drive type hitter with average bat speed, will benefit from strength gains, 71 mph exit velocity off the tee. Shows some athleticism in ght infield, good body control and ability to throw on the move from multiple arm angles, short high-3/4 release with 76 mph velocity across the infield.

Tyler Wilson, SS/RHP, Fern Creek HS, 2016
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, hands get extended behind body some causing some length in swing, level swing path, line drive type hitter, 77 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 7.66 60-yard dash. Shows soft hands and athletic infield actions, fluid footwork and works through the baseball well, good body control, high-3/4 release with accurate throws, 77 mph velocity across the infield, solid defender.

Morgan Bell, SS, Somerset Area HS (PA), 2017
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, short stride, hands start high and drop some in load, long/level swing path, showed some bat speed with 82 mph exit velocity off the tee., ran a 7.63 60-yard dash. Shows soft hands defensively, athletic actions, has a longer exchange with a high-3/4 release, accurate throws across the diamond, 77 mph infield velocity, solid defender whose offensive game will benefit from additional strength gains.

Adam Fusco, SS/RHP, South Oldham HS, 2017
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitter hits from an open stance, utilizes a leg kick and squares front side with a mid-length stride, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, average bat speed, 71 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 7.63 60-yard dash. Shows adequate hands defensively, has a short high-3/4 release with accurate throws, 76 mph velocity across the infield.

Noah Gayhart, 2B, Ryle HS, 2017
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, no stride, long swing path, limited use of lower half, gap to gap approach, average bat speed, 73 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 7.84 60-yard dash.  Shows adequate hands defensively, short high-3/4 release with accurate throws, stiff arm action, 71 mph velocity across the infield.

Jonah Williams, SS, Conner HS, 2017
5-foot-10, 130-pound left-handed hitter hits from an open stance and squares up with a long stride, has significant pre-pitch hand movement, long swing path, line drive type hitter, posted a 70 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran a 7.69 60-yard dash. Showed average hands defensively, short ¾ release with developing arm strength at 66 mph across the infield.

Nick Casey, RHP/2B, Muhlenberg County HS, 2018
6-foot-1, 168-pound right-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance and squares up with a short stride, good balance, short swing path with some quickness in hands, line drive type hitter with above average bat speed for age, 81 mph exit velocity off the tee, ran an 8.02 60-yard dash. Shows average hands defensively, has a slower exchange with a short high-3/4 release, some throws accurate, average arm strength, 72 mph velocity across the infield.
