At long last the Kansas high school baseball season is just days away which means its time for the inaugural Prep Baseball Report Kansas Top 25 Preseason Team Rankings. 

The Kansas High School Athletics Association will use six classes (6A, 5A, 4A-Division I, 4A-Division II, 3A and 2-1A) for state playoff purposes this year – we, however, are taking a combined approach to our rankings taking a look at who we believe to be Top 25 teams in the state entering the season regardless of class.  We receive an abundance of correspondence from our readership asking us who the top teams in the state are, and in particular how teams from different classes would match-up - we feel that the combined Top 25 approach allows us to cover both areas.

Over the last several months we’ve spent countless hours polling coaches; crunching numbers; examining rosters; dissecting pitching staffs and line-ups; analyzing schedules; as well as holding staff teleconferences on the topic.  We created multiple spreadsheets taking many factors into consideration but put particular emphasis on the strength of the returning players for each team. 

Our hard work, of course, means very little because only time will tell who the state’s top teams will be and we certainly invite teams to prove us wrong - but would also appreciate some of the teams proving us right!

We will update the Top 25 twice during the regular season and post on our website.
