Kentucky Player of the Week: Logan County RHP/IF Caleb Bruner

As was the case last season when they advanced to the State Tournament, Logan County will be a force to be reckoned with when tournament play begins in the 4th Region, and junior RHP/IF Caleb Bruner is a big reason for that.

For the season, Bruner, who has already committed to Morehead State, has been nearly unhittable.  He sports a 7-1 record, and in 54.1 innings pitched has allowed just 23 hits, 10 earned runs, and has racked up 96 strikeouts while issuing just 14 walks.

In addition, Bruner has made significant contributions with his bat.  He is currently hitting .354 with five doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 22 RBI.  To say he is an integral part of the Cougar’s hopes in repeating as 4th Region champions would be a gross understatement.

Last week, Bruner had a performance that landed him as a finalist for Player of the Week for the second time this season.  At the plate, he went 8-for-16 with a double, home run, and seven RBI, but it was what he did on the mound that took a good week and made it exceptional.  Against Todd County Central, Bruner fired a perfect game with 16 strikeouts, a win that clinched the 13th District regular season title for the Cougars.

Voting ended for Player of the Week at 8:00 PM last evening, and here are the final results.

Caleb Bruner, 2015 RHP/IF, Logan County HS – 69
Kaleb Duckworth, 2014 OF, Henderson County HS – 51
Mason Stamm, 2015 OF/LHP, Danville HS - 48

All three players had outstanding performances for their teams last week, and the fans have spoken.

For his performance on the field, Caleb Bruner has been selected as this week’s Prep Baseball Report Kentucky Player of the Week.
