Kentucky's Division 1 Recruits By The Numbers

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

With the early signing period beginning yesterday, we take a look at the numbers to date in regard to where Kentucky's Division 1 recruits in the class of 2013 are coming from and where they are headed.

A total of 33 players in the class of 2013 have already signed or will be signing Division 1 letters of intent with various schools.

Let's take a look at where the D1 signees are coming from:

  • Lexington Catholic leads the way with 3 players signing to continue their careers at the Division 1 level.
  • North Oldham has 2 players signing Division 1 letters of intent.
  • Madison Central has 2 players signing Division 1 letters of intent.
  • Holy Cross has 2 players signing Division 1 letters of intent.
  • Henderson County has 2 players signing Division 1 letters of intent.

The following schools each have 1 player signing with Division 1 schools:

  • Pleasure Ridge Park
  • North Bullitt
  • Montgomery County
  • Murray
  • Saint Xavier
  • Green County
  • Bishop Brossart
  • Collins
  • Owensboro Catholic
  • Ashland Paul G Blazer
  • DuPont Manual
  • Tates Creek
  • Kentucky Country Day
  • Bullitt East
  • Lexington Christian Academy
  • Sayre
  • North Laurel
  • Franklin County
  • Warren East
  • Breathitt County
  • Central Hardin
  • Woodford County

A breakdown of the numbers shows that Kentucky high school players favor staying in state as 26 of the 33 Division 1 recruits in the early signing period have signed with in-state schools.  Let's take a look at how many are headed where.

In-state schools

Kentucky - 7
Louisville - 5
Western Kentucky - 5
Eastern Kentucky - 4
Murray State - 3
Morehead State - 1
Northern Kentucky - 1

Out of state schools
Tennessee Tech - 1
Michigan - 1
Ohio  - 1
Cornell - 1
Ball State - 1
Evansville - 1
Ohio State - 1

I think there are at least a few more Division 1 recruits to follow in the class of 2013 in the late signing period.  We will re-visit these numbers after the high school season to get a better picture of where the state will end up in regards to Division 1 recruits.
