Lake Central Takes Regional Crown 3-1

Between Lake Central's Taylor Lehnert (2012) and Penn's Chad Whitmer, we had two of the top right handed arms in the state on display. The outcome would be decided off the bat of some unsung hero's, but the game did live up to the hype.

Both Penn and Lake Central are teams that everyone in the state should covet. They are well coached, run well, hit well, field well, and pitch well. All of those qualities are tough to beat when they match up on a day-to-day basis. Penn would scratch the scoreboard first in the top of the 2nd inning due to a fielding error and past ball, making it 1-0 Kingsmen. Unfortunately for Penn, this would be the lone run of the game for them.

Penn did have an opportunity to add a run in the 3rd, but could not execute. In the bottom of the 3rd, Lake Central's Mike Burvan (2012) would walk, followed by a Chase Fieldhouse (2012) single, and an RBI single by Senior Austen Wagoner tied the game at 1-1. Still in the 3rd, the unsung hero Anthony Fushi (2012) singled to left field scoring both Fieldhouse and Wagoner. After three full innings the score was 3-1 in favor of Lake Central.

With both Lehnert and Whitmer dealing, this game provided no sexy offensive numbers; however, it was a joy to watch. With the game still at 3-1, Lehnert completed off his performance by retiring three straight in the 7th to capture the Regional Title.

Final: Lake Central 3 - Penn 1
