Close to 50 players from Maryland and Virginia participated in this year's MD Top Prospect Games at the beautiful Joe Cannon Stadium. Players were put through a pro-style workout and played one simulated game in front of our PBR Mid-Atlantic staff.

Throughout the next week or so, our staff will highlight key performers and top uncommitted players that showcased well at this year's MD Top Prospect Games.

2024 C Derek Poole (Archbishop Curley)

Derek Poole C / 1B / Archbishop Curley, MD / 2024

The catcher position was certainly a highlight at this year's Top Prospect Games, and Poole added his name as one of the players that made stood out. Physicality in the 6-foot-2, 210 pound frame, the Archbishop Curley product showcased the hit tool early, blasting baseballs deep to the pull side alley with carry and backspin. There's rhythm in the hands, shifting the weight to the back leg with controlled explosion through contact. Creates extension, allowing for plate coverage and the ability to utilize the physical frame and strong hands to showcase the power to all fields. Manipulates the barrel occasionally, allowing the hands to get to inside fastballs well, but the strength is showcased more consistently on balls out over the plate. Moves well for the frame behind the dish, showcasing the ability to get the ball out quick with accurate throws to the bag. Arm strength needs to increase, however the actions look to keep Poole behind the dish at the next level. First base could be an option, as the hands have some fluidity and softness to them, allowing a move there to get the high powered bat in the lineup.
