Prep Baseball Report's MN Future Games Trials event took place July 6, 2016. The event was held at Vet's Field at Minnetonka HS in Minnetonka, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2018 class from Minnesota who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff; and Coach Paul Twenge and Minnetonka HS for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Future Games Trials; as we drill down into the statistics:

+ 16 players ran sub-7.25 60's.
+ 20 players recorded 80+ mph exit velocities
+ 12 players recorded 76+ mph infield throws
+ 9 players recorded 76+ mph outfield throws
+ 12 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 18 pitchers were 78+ mph on the mound

Below is our breakdown of the player's in attendance with our evaluations on the infielders. Players are listed below in alphabetical order.


infield evaluations 

Andrew Andresen, SS/OF/RHP, Minnetonka, 2018
5-foot-9, 142-pound right-handed hitting player. 7.25 runner. Slight load, leans back at contact, solid bat path, gap to gap hitter with avg. pop in bat. 78 mph exit velocity. At shortstop shows good actions, feet are avg. presently, but has quickness and range. Able to throw from multiple angles, has solid exchanges, and quick release. 77 mph arm strength with accuracy across diamond. Aggressive routes with good direction and footwork in outfield. Quick release on throws with above avg. carry and accuracy to target. 85 mph arm strength from outfield.

Shane Brown, SS, Mahtomedi, 2018
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.31 runner. Rocker load, linear actions, easy swing with clean bat path through zone, line drive hitter, gap to gap approach with consistent hard contact. 81 mph exit velocity. Solid actions in field, soft glove with clean exchanges, moves with short choppy steps occasionally, accurate arm to first base with 76 mph arm strength across infield.

Michael Caron, SS, Cretin-Derham Hall, 2018
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.31 runner. High back elbow shoulder load, double tap stride and trigger, battles timing occasionally, mid/pull approach, solid contact, 78 mph exit velocity. Above avg. high school defender, good actions, clean projectable arm action, above avg. carry and accuracy to target, and plays with athletic actions in field. 78 mph arm strength.

Logan Corson, SS, Fillmore Central, 2018
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.32 runner. Raw mechanically at plate. Out and around at contact. Pull approach with hard contact to that side of field. 73 mph exit velocity. Late glove presentation, fields underneath body, long release on throws with accuracy. 73 mph arm strength across diamond.

Collin Denk, RHP/SS, Lakeville North, 2018
6-foot-2, 166-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.25 runner. Athletic frame with solid pop in bat. Square stance, balanced stride, loses posture through contact, line drive swing plane, mid/pull approach with rhythm in swing. 83 mph exit velocity. Shows decent glove and athleticism in field. Raw mechanically and tends to sit on baseball vs. working through it. 76 mph arm strength across diamond.

Chester Dixon, SS/OF, Edina, 2018
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting player. 7.16 runner. Shoulder load, front knee trigger, inline stride, aggressive swinger. Flat line drive swing plane. Consistent hard contact with mid/pull approach. 76 mph exit velocity. Quick twitch actions, plays low to ground, soft glove, average angles at SS, solid carry and accuracy to bag, 76 mph arm strength. Above average feet and glove in outfield. Quick clean throws from high ¾ arm slot. Shows solid carry and accuracy to target with 82 mph arm strength from outfield.

Zack Elliott, SS, Eden Prairie, 2018
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.17 runner. Taller projectable frame. High back elbow load, some length to contact, generates solid bat speed, out and around at contact occasionally, flashes pop in bat, 80 mph exit velocity. Solid all-around defender. Soft glove, feet need to continue to develop, possible move to 3B in future with frame, short clean arm action, accuracy and solid carry to bag. 78 mph arm strength.

Mitchell Goodwin, SS, Prior Lake, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.31 runner. Solid athletic build with stronger lower half. Early load, still hands, repeatable swing, line drive swing plane, consistent hard contact, pull approach, 88 mph exit velocity. Average feet and angles in feet, soft glove, arm plays above avg. on left-side of infield. Possible move to 3B or offensive 2B in college. 80 mph arm strength.

Zachary Haala, SS, Sleepy Eye, 2018
6-foot-1, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.44 runner. Square simple stance. Balanced stride, falls back at contact, out and around at contact, mid/pull approach, inconsistent BP session, 72 mph exit velocity. Young actions in field, late glove presentation, plays tall at position, tends to field underneath, accuracy to bag with 66 mph arm strength.

Jack Hanson, 2B, Minnetonka, 2018
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 7.5 runner. Clean load, minimal stride, good balance, clean line drive swing plane, mid/pull approach with solid pop in bat, 84 mph exit velocity. Simple solid actions in field. Good exchanges to throwing hand. Shows soft glove. Short quick release on throws. Sinking action to bag with 71 mph arm strength.

Richie Holetz, RHP/1B, Edina, 2018
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.16 runner. Double tap trigger, loses posture and balance in swing, makes solid contact, sprays ball across field, 73 mph exit velocity. Solid defender at first base, makes routine plays, longer arm action, accurate to bag, 71 mph arm strength across diamond.

Austin Jerylo, RHP/3B, Mahtomedi, 2018
5-foot-9, 205-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.43 runner. Open stance, strides to square with front heel turn trigger, stays inside baseball well at contact, mid/pull approach, with avg. pop in bat, 83 mph exit velocity. Above avg. hands at position, lacks range, clean exchanges with accurate throws across. 73 mph arm strength.

Derek Kay, 2B, Prior Lake, 2018
5-foot-11, 155-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.00 runner. Square stance with leg kick trigger. Relatively simple swing, works gaps, line drive swing plane, uses hands producing solid contact, shows ability to go the other way, 75 mph exit velocity. Light on his feet, solid range, soft glove, needs to follow throws across, sits back on balls occasionally, 67 mph arm strength.

Ryan Loberg, SS, Minnetonka, 2018
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.32 runner. Leg kick trigger, long base, collapse in lower half, length to contact, spray contact across field, pull approach, 82 mph exit velocity. Plays low to ground, average glove and arm action, long release, solid all-around infielder, 70 mph arm strength.

Noah Matousek, 3B/RHP, Eden Prairie, 2018
5-foot-11, 195-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.05 runner. Solid set-up in box, leg kick trigger, minimal weight shift through contact, pull approach, out and around at contact, avg. pop in bat, 73 mph exit velocity. Accurate arm across infield from long release, avg. feet and hands, tends to field flat and underneath, 72 mph arm strength across diamond.

Mason Nadolney, SS/RHP, Minnetonka, 2018
6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.42 runner. Physical build. Has made improvements offensively since March. Back shoulder turn load, easy actions, clean path, swings with shoulder occasionally, flashes of solid extension through contact, mid/pull approach with above avg. pop in bat, 84 mph exit velocity. Solid glove and range, heavier feet, long release on throws with accuracy to bag. Profiles as third baseman in college. 83 mph arm strength across diamond.

Tyler Peterson, RHP/3B, Minneapolis South, 2018
5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.63 runner. No load/no stride mechanics, solid contact, uses whole field, ground ball and line drive contact, 71 mph exit velocity. Aggressive fielder, good angles, solid footwork, avg. glove, quick release on throws, accuracy to bag with 73 mph arm strength.

Kyle Robinson, RHP/3B, East Ridge, 2018
6-foot-3, 183-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.84 runner. Stronger athletic build. Open stance, strides to square, uncontrolled load, mid/pull approach, consistent hard contact, 76 mph exit velocity. Shows solid hands and feet at position. Misses target arm-side; should improve with following throws across with better direction. Good arm strength with carry. 83 mph arm strength.

Jose Rodgers-Valdez, C/IF, South St. Paul, 2018
5-foot-6, 150-pound right-handed hitting player. 7.6 runner. Crouched stance, balanced swing, stiff lower half through contact, works middle of field, line drive approach. 80 mph exit velocity. Works around plate with feet, some length to exchange, short arm action, and is accurate to bag. 72 mph arm strength with 2.19-2.41 pop times. Solid receiver, shifts weight well behind pitch, and centers pitches to body. Clean arm action with accuracy to bag, heavier feet, average range, decent glove, 73 mph arm strength across.

David Solfelt, 3B/RHP, Southwest Christian, 2018
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.81 runner. Crouched stance, stands up to swing losing leverage, clean slight uphill path, good hand-eye coordination, consistent solid contact, mid/pull approach with avg. pop in bat, 71 mph exit velocity. Clean arm action, sits back on balls, shows solid glove, long release on throws with avg. accuracty to bag. 72 mph arm strength across.

Justin Stacey, 2B/C, Chanhassen, 2018
5-foot-7, 140-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.84 runner. Leg kick trigger. Short to contact with average pop in bat. Rolls hands over early at contact. Short finish. Uses whole field. 77 mph exit velocity. Solid all-around infielder. Makes routine plays, accurate arm, usable glove, 71 mph arm strength across. Hard worker behind plate, average mobility, needs to improve receiving. Clean exchange, long release, extra step in footwork, 71 mph arm strength with 2.34-2.53 pop times.

Carter Theis, 3B, Edina, 2018
5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitting third baseman. 7.25 runner. Slightly crouched stance, double tap trigger, small hitch in swing, clean path through contact, solid extension, mid/pull approach, flashes of above avg. pop in bat. 78 mph exit velocity.  Well above avg. defender at third base with active feet, works low to ground, fields out front, creates direction, and follows throws across. Clean arm action with quick release. Throws show solid accuracy with carry to bag. 75 mph arm strength. Strong Follow in MN 2018 class. Very interesting prospect in future with continued development and strength gains.

Paxton Thompson, SS/RHP, St. Michael-Albertville, 2018
6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.28 runner. Simple set-up, shifts weight well through swing, solid extension through contact, consistent hard mid/pull contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Good footwork, creates angles, soft glove, athletic actions, long release. Throws show solid carry and accuracy to bag. 78 mph arm strength. Strong Follow in MN 2018 class.

Zach Thor, RHP/1B, New Life Academy, 2018
6-foot-6, 195-pound right-handed pitcher/ first baseman. 7.94 runner. Simple swing mechanics, some uphill path and length, tends to swing with shoulders with limited extension through contact, 80 mph exit velocity. Sits back on groundballs, narrow base, glove works enough. Makes routine plays, arm is accurate, 72 mph arm strength.

Henry Trost, SS, Chisago Lakes, 2018
5-foot-9, 165-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. 6.65 runner. Crouched stance, hands drop in load, uphill swing plane, underneath contact on ball, gap to gap approach, flashes above avg. pop in bat, 84 mph exit velocity. Very quick with good range to both sides, quick feet, avg. hands, stiff arm action, accuracy across with 76 mph arm strength.

Jarod Wandersee, SS, Minnetonka, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.68 runner. Tall athletic stance. Easy actions in box. Clean swing path. Consistent solid hard, flashes of above avg. pop, and shows ability to use whole field, 78 mph exit velocity. Above avg. feet, hands and arm action. Moves extremely well in the field. Accurate arm to bag with 72 mph arm strength. Strong Follow in MN 2018 class. Tools need to improve with maturity and additional strength; present ability evident.
