Prep Baseball Report's MN Top Prospect Games event took place on June 20 and 21, 2016. The event was held at Minnetonka High School in Minnetonka, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2017 class from Minnesota and North Dakota who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and 50+ coaches in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff and Minnetonka Head Coach Paul Twenge for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Top Prospect Games.

As we drill down into the statistics:

+ 36 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+ 54 players recorded 85+ mph exit velocities
+ 20 players recorded 80+ mph infield throws
+ 23 players recorded 80+ mph outfield throws
+ 20 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 5 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 47 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Riley Ahern, RHP/3B, Holy Angels, 2017
6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong durable build. 8.25 runner. Mid/pull approach, doubles pop in bat, clean bat path, some lift at contact, simple swing mechanics, 87 mph exit velocity. Active feet in field, solid glove, average range, long release on throws, sinking action on throws from low ¾ slot, 76 mph arm strength.

Jackson Baird, SS, Providence Academy, 2017
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Strong compact frame. 6.95 runner. Big motor. Starts and stays open at plate, flat slashy swing plane, solid contact with aggressive swing, pull approach, 77 mph exit velocity. Attacks baseball, good athleticism in field, throws from multiple angles, clean exchanges with quick release, accuracy to bag, 81 mph arm strength.

Ryan Bastyr, 2B/RHP, Lakeville North, 2017
6-foot-3, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Tall lanky frame. Consistent solid contact, mid/pull approach, short to contact, with doubles power in bat, 78 mph exit velocity. Shows solid accuracy and carry across diamond, easy actions, fields out front, tends to play flat-footed, 79 mph arm strength with clean arm action.

Matthew Bezdicek, LHP/1B, Osseo, 2017
6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean frame. 7.47 runner. Simple load and rhythm. Rotational lower half. Pull approach with average pop in bat. Produced solid exit velo’s off tee at 89 mph. Active feet at first base. Aggressive fielder. Quick release with average accuracy. Moves well around bag. 71 mph arm strength across diamond.

Matt Brooks, SS/RHP, Benilde St. Margaret’s, 2017
6-foot-2, 192-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Physical infielder. 7.28 runner. Deep load, flat bat path, quiet head in swing, consistent solid contact, above avg. pop in bat, mid/pull approach, 86 mph exit velocity. Short choppy steps to baseball, average range, shows soft glove, above avg. carry to bag with solid accuracy, 82 mph arm strength.

Graham Burke, RHP/SS, Southwest Christian, 2017
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean athletic build. 7.3 runner. Linear hitting mechanics, consistent hard line drives, works gap to gap well, solid pop in bat, 80 mph exit velocity. Active feet in field, plays on balls of feet, solid glove, short repeatable arm action, solid accuracy to bag, 82 mph arm strength.

Reed Collins, 3B/RHP, Farmington, 2017
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong frame. 7.6 runner. Athletic balanced set-up in box. Good rhythm and bat path through zone. Flashes pop in bat with mid/pull approach. Has extension through contact. 84 mph exit velocity. Fields out front with soft glove and adequate feet. Solid carry and accuracy to bag with longer release. 79 mph arm strength across diamond. Strong follow in 2017 class with bat.

Dawson Degnan, 3B/C/RHP, Cretin-Derham Hall, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitting utility player. 7.34 runner with 95 mph exit velocity. Good timing in box, clean swing, consistent hard contact, uses whole field. Versatile defender that can play in field. Solid actions with appropriate footwork. Average carry with accuracy to bag at 80 mph. Athletic actions behind plate, quick release, solid carry and accuracy to bag, 2.07-2.12 pop times with 74 mph arm strength.

Nicholas Dinkel, SS, St. Michael-Albertville, 2017
6-foot, 145-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder. 7.84 runner. Square stance with knee to knee trigger. Balanced swing. Clean bat path and short to contact. Mid/pull approach with average pop in bat. 80 mph exit velocity. Good angles to ball, solid glove, some effort on throws with long release, accurate to bag. 78 mph arm strength.

Derek Drees, RHP/3B, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, 2017
6-foot-5, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Projectable tall frame with stronger lower half. 7.22 runner. Leg kick trigger, solid line drive bat path, some spin tendencies with lower half, some extension through contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Active feet and athletic at third base. Solid exchanges and creates good angles to target. Slight sink on throws from ¾ slot. 86 mph arm strength across. 

Sam Dupont, 1B, Eden Prairie, 2017
6-foot, 205-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Physical player with present strength. 7.28 runner. Leg kick trigger with gap to gap approach. Quick hands to contact. Lacks extension through baseball and pulls off occasionally. With minor adjustments; will be able to use bat speed and strength more effectively. 85 mph exit velocity. Solid defender at first base. Fields deep occasionally. Makes routine plays. Quick release on throws and is solid around bag. 69 mph arm strength.

Reece English, SS, Lakeville South, 2017
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder. 7.16 runner. Pre-set hands in load, some lift and uphill path to swing, simple mechanics, consistent solid contact, and uses whole field. 72 mph exit velocity. Active feet, fields deep occasionally, stiff arm action, profiles as second baseman, 75 mph arm strength.

Jensen Erickson, 2B, Maple Grove, 2017
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 7.09 runner. Spread stance, toe tap trigger, some length to contact, slight uphill path to contact, limited use of lower half in swing, 77 mph exit velocity. Short strides on defense, occasional late glove presentation, hands are usable, stiff arm action, 70 mph bag with accuracy.

Tyler Fietek, 3B, Lakeville North, 2017
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. Physical frame with strong lower half. 7.41 runner. Uses hands in swing, late load occasionally, controlled tempo, pull approach, with above avg. bat speed, 90 mph exit velocity. Shows solid hands, fields deep occasionally, but is active with feet and creates angles through ball, clean exchanges with solid accuracy to bag at 82 mph. 

Trenton Fredenbrug, 2B, Anoka, 2017
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Physical build. 7.4 runner. Aggressive swinger, flashes pop from line drive swing plane, loses posture/ falls back at contact, pull approach, 87 mph exit velocity. Choppy steps in field, fields routine, solid accuracy to target, low arm slot on throws, 76 mph arm strength across diamond.

Max Gamm, SS, East Ridge, 2017
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.3 runner. Lean athletic frame. Good barrel control, uses whole field, flashes pop on occasion, consistent solid contact, 80 mph exit velocity. Loose actions if field, soft glove, some effort on throws, solid accuracy and carry to target, 81 mph arm strength.

Nick Goblisch, SS, St. Thomas Academy, 2017
6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. 7.18 runner. Performed well at event. Consistent hard contact with slashy pull oriented swing producing quality line drives. Active in field with energy, good angles, and above avg. arm strength. 86 mph arm strength with solid accuracy to bag and usable glove in field.

Jacob Goraczkowski, 3B/RHP, Chaska, 2017
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean athletic build. Projects to add strength. 7.42 runner. Loose hands in swing, works gap to gap, line drive swing plane, consistent hard contact, 79 mph exit velocity. Easy actions in field, good footwork and exchanges, clean arm action with solid carry and accuracy to bag, 85 mph arm strength.

James Green, RHP/3B, St. Francis, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.47 runner. Strong build. Some rhythm in load, inconsistent lower half in swing, simple swing path to contact, gap to gap approach, flashes pop to pull side of field, 85 mph exit velocity. Works down to up with solid glove-work and fields out front, average feet, ¾ arm slot with sinking action to target, 77 mph arm strength.

Will Gudorf, LHP/1B, Edina, 2017
6-foot-3, 215-pound left-handed 2-way player. 8.09 runner. Early load, flat bat path, long stride, loses posture at contact, mid/pull approach, average contact, 76 mph exit velocity. Active fielder with feet, soft glove, quick release, adequate around bag. 79 mph arm strength.

Andrew Hanson, SS, Burnsville, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Taller lean middle infielder with present strength. 7.28 runner. Open stance and strides to square. Clean bat path with solid bat speed. Mid/pull approach with solid contact. 86 mph exit velocity. Solid all-around infielder. Usable glove and feet. Makes routine plays. Shows accurate arm with carry to bag. 78 mph arm strength.

Blaze Hogie, 1B, Cambridge-Isanti, 2017
6-foot-3, 190-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 7.6 runner. Clean path path, works middle of field, with average bat speed and rhythm in swing. 82 mph exit velocity. Fields deep in stance, average glove, stiff arm action, throws around target, 70 mph arm strength.

Jack Husemann, 1B/RHP, Eagan, 2017
6-foot-6, 230-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Runs very well for size. 6.95 60. Wide stance, slight hitch in load, flat bat plane, hard line drive contact on balls up in zone, mid/pull approach, creates bat speed with long levers- 91 mph exit velocity. Solid defender at first. Good target to throw. Adequate around bag. Long release on throws. 67 mph arm strength.

Connor Kehl, 2B, Eden Prairie, 2017
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 6.94 runner. High elbow set-up. Rigid path through zone occasionally. Inverted plane to contact. Flashes pop to pull side of field with 85 mph exit velocity. 85 mph arm across infield. Solid carry and accuracy to bag. Solid actions with soft glove and clean exchanges. Projects physically.

Brady Knotts, 1B, Chanhassen, 2017
6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Lean physical corner infielder. 7.87 runner. Uses lower half well in swing, good separation after contact, line drive swing plane, works gaps well, consistent hard contact, 83 mph exit velocity. Solid defender, tall fielding position occasionally, adequate around bag, accurate throws to target, 77 mph arm strength.

Hunter Koep, 3B/RHP, Northfield, 2017
6-foot-4, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.21 runner. Very physical with athleticism. Pull approach at plate with big raw power from pull gap to left-field line. Relatively clean bat path, slightly grooved at times, with well above average bat speed. 93 mph exit velocity. Solid feet and actions at third base. Good arm across diamond with carry and accuracy. 86 mph arm. Runs enough that corner OF could be option as well.

Andrew Lee, RHP/3B, Robbinsdale Cooper, 2017
6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.57 runner. Slight hitch in load, shows solid bat speed, and stays long through zone, with mid/pull approach, 84 mph exit velocity. Usable glove, makes routine plays, average feet and range, solid arm across infield, 82 mph arm strength with accuracy.

Dalton Locklear, LHP/1B, Lakeville South, 2017
6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Gap to gap approach, consistent solid contact, uphill swing plane, average pop in bat. 76 mph exit velocity. Easy actions in field, solid around first base, fields out front, accurate throws to target, 75 mph arm strength.

Joe Macken, 3B, Rochester Lourdes, 2017
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. Balanced set-up. Long stride, flat bat path, flashes pop in bat, consistent solid contact, lacks rhythm in load and swing, 86 mph exit velocity. Active feet with quick release, fields deep in stance, stiff arm action from low ¾ slot, average accuracy and carry to bag, 70 mph arm strength.

John McCaustlin, RHP/SS, Prior Lake, 2017
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.15 runner. Wide stance, rotational hitter, produces solid bat speed, consistent hard contact with pull approach, tends to fall over plate in swing, 92 mph exit velocity. Raw athlete in field, projects well, has minor things to clean up, shows accuracy across diamond at 78 mph.

Kai McLeod, SS, Detroit Lakes, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.66 runner. Solid frame with strength. Long stride to contact, collapses in swing, line drive swing plane, creates bat speed with 91 mph exit velocity. Shows good footwork and hands, stiff arm action, average accuracy and carry to bag, 76 mph arm strength.

Max Meyer, SS/RHP, Woodbury, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Shortly after event- committed to U. of Minnesota. Lean loose frame. 7.29 runner. Uses lower half well in swing, good bat path, line drive swing, and shows ability to work both gaps. 90 mph exit velocity. Soft glove, good range, ability to throw from multiple angles, easy actions, 87 mph arm strength across diamond with occasional sinking action.

Wyatt Morrell, 2B/RHP, Elk River, 2017
6-foot, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean athletic body. 7.3 runner. Wide stance with double tap trigger, some stiffness to swing, stays on baseball, mid/pull approach, consistent solid contact. 77 mph exit velocity. High fielding position, tends to field deep in stance, usable glove, quick release on throws with solid accuracy to bag. 72 mph arm strength.

Matt Muller, SS, Minnetonka, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. 6.94 runner. Athletic build. Strides across body, loses lower half in swing, spray hitter, uses field, line drive swing plane, average pop in bat, 80 mph exit velocity. Good arm action, short release, accurate to bag, fields deep in stance, late glove presentation. 77 mph arm strength.

Will Oberg, 3B, Wayzata, 2017
6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. Strong durable frame. Good runner for size at 7.25. Strong set-up in box, balanced lower half, falls over plate occasionally, drives through baseball and works gaps consistently, 86 mph exit velocity. Shows average feet and hands with ability to make plays. Decent actions. Throws are on-line with accuracy and carry to bag at 78 mph.

Zach Parks, SS/RHP, Apple Valley, 2017
6-foot-3, 185-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Texas-Rio Grande Valley commit. Athletic frame with wide shoulders and lean strength. Whippy bat speed, stays in middle of field, with ability to drive gaps, consistent hard contact. 90 mph exit velocity. Athletic in field, plays uptempo, good hands and feet. Above average carry and accuracy to bag with quick release at 82 mph arm strength.

Brodie Paulson, 3B/RHP, Woodbury, 2017
6-foot-4, 205-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Projectable body with solid tools. 7.38 runner. Simple swing, tall to fall, clean bat path, creates good bat speed, shows ability to drive baseball to oppo gap, lacks extension through contact occasionally, 88 mph exit velocity. Average feet in field, usable glove, fields out front, long release on throws, 84 mph arm strength.

Sam Peterson, 2B, Aitkin, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting infielder. Mid/pull approach with quick hands, short to contact, and solid pop to pull side of field. Consistent hard contact with balanced simple swing. 81 mph exit velocity. Shows decent hands, average range, with quick release on throws. 71 mph arm strength across diamond.

Maxwell Ploof, 3B/RHP, Anoka, 2017
6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Tall physical infielder that should continue to add strength. Quality set-up, short to contact, mid/pull approach, and consistently squares baseball with authority. 91 mph exit velocity. Good footwork with clean exchanges. Appropriate routes and angles; plays through ball. 82 mph arm strength with carry and accuracy to bag.

Lucas Pumper, 3B/RHP, Prior Lake, 2017
5-foot-11, 200-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong frame. 2-piece swing, minimal rhythm, flat path through zone, mid/pull approach, with above average strength and pop, 89 mph exit velocity. Simple fielder, plays flat-footed, soft glove, sinking action on throws from ¾ slot, makes routine plays, 79 mph arm strength.

Jimmy Ramsey, 1B/RHP, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-7, 235-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.34 runner with 96 mph exit velocity off tee. Will be a monster physically in college. University of Oregon commit. Clean bath path and hit 2 extremely hard hit balls to oppo and pull gap in game action. Flashes power to both sides of field. Average defender at first base. Projects as RHP/DH in college.

Will Rog, 1B, Totino-Grace, 2017
6-foot, 205-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Strong thick build. Has rhythm in load and swing, clean bat path, consistent hard contact, works gap to gap well, 89 mph exit velocity. Solid defender at first. Soft hands, accurate throws, ability to turn double play, 72 mph arm strength.

Jack Schechtman, 1B, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Strong build. 7.1 runner. Active load, aggressive swing, inconsistent hard contact, pull approach, 87 mph exit velocity. Active in field, solid glove, accurate throws, sound around bag, 75 mph arm strength. Runs and has enough athleticism that OF could be option as well.

CJ Sowards, 2B, Lakeville North, 2017
5-foot-7, 140-pound left-handed hitting infielder. 7.65 runner. Simple line drive swing plane. Mid/pull contact. Slight uphill plane. Singles hitter. 76 mph exit velocity. Fields routine ground balls. Long release on throws. Sinking action to bag. 65 mph arm strength.

Gus Steiger, SS, Minnetonka, 2017
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Solid all-around player with good tools. Athletic build and well above avg. runner- 6.69 60. Mid/pull approach with consistent solid contact. Uses hands well in swing. Clean bat path. Doubles power in bat. 88 mph exit velocity. Soft glove with good actions and body control. Quick release on throws with above avg. carry and accuracy to target. 82 mph arm strength across diamond.

Austin Strantz, SS/RHP, Park, 2017
5-foot-7, 140-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Small frame. 7.1 runner. Short to contact, aggressive swings, inconsistent contact, spray hitter, 85 mph exit velocity. Good feet, plays through ball, soft glove, plays IF with energy- attacks baseball, solid arm action with accuracy at 81 mph.

Ronnie Sweeny, 1B, Woodbury, 2017
6-foot-2, 210-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 7.4 runner. Still maturing into body. Will add considerable size and strength in college. Mature strike zone discipline, flashes power to both sides of field, finds barrel consistently, mostly producing hard line drives with occasional loft power. 86 mph exit velocity. Has continued to improve at first base. Still relatively new to position. Shows soft hands, reads hops well, and shows solid arm with ability to turn double plays. 78 mph arm strength.

Jackson Uner, 3B/RHP, Hill-Murray, 2017
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.5 runner. Drops hands in load, uphill swing plane, pull approach, flashes solid pop at contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Above average defender, good actions and feet, clean exchanges to throwing hand, quick release on throws with accuracy to bag. 81 mph arm strength.

Lane Vugteveen, 1B, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-2, 225-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 7.9 runner. Active early load, quiet lower half and translates weight well through swing, consistent solid contact, with mid/pull approach, 84 mph exit velocity. Solid defender at first base with soft glove. Adequate footwork around bag. Short arm action with average accuracy to target. 67 mph arm strength.

Mitchell Waletzki, 3B/RHP, Robbinsdale Armstrong, 2017
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.01 runner. Strong build. Raw hitting mechanics, shows ability to drive baseball with strength, uphill path and pull approach, 85 mph exit velocity. Average actions and athleticism in field, shows soft glove, and well above accuracy and carry to bag with good arm strength at 85 mph.

Tom Yokiel, SS, Mankato West, 2017
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. Smaller compact build, limited extension through contact, uses whole field, line drive swing plane, 83 mph exit velocity. Good accuracy to target, active feet, fields deep in stance, needs to field through baseball more, solid athlete. 76 mph arm strength.
