Gov. Thomas Johnson Wins Slugfest over Towson

It was a hitter's game in the 3A semifinal matchup Tuesday night at Joe Cannon Stadium between Gov. Thomas Johnson Patriots HS and Towson HS.

The night started with a RBI triple by 2018 Jack Maruskin (Frostburg St) plating 2021 Jacob Orr (Maryland) who was hit by pitch the previous at bat. Thomas Johnson took a quick 2-0 lead out of the gate.

In the second inning 2019 Justin Bolden came to bat with Patriots on 2nd and 3rd with two outs and took matters into his own hands as he broke the game open with a 2 RBI double to left center field extending the Patriots lead to 6-0.

The Towson Generals were able to strike back in the bottom of the frame, putting up two runs of their own off of a single by 2018 Jack Bayne and a walk by 2019 Max Gadsden.

Yet again it was Bolden who took matters into his own hands as he came to bat in the top of the third inning with two outs and the bases loaded. Bolden hit a laser over the left fielder's head that one-hopped the fence for a bases clearing double to help extend the Patriots lead to 11-2.

Towson was able to scratch across three more runs later in the game, but that was all they could muster, making the final 11-5.

Your key performers in the Win for Thomas Johnson were Bolden,  who went 2-for-3 in the game with two doubles and five RBI's, 2018 Gabe Stitley (Chesapeake College) who got the win while giving up two runs over four innings of work and fanning four Generals. Jack Maruskin (Frostburg St) was 1-for-3 at the plate with a RBI triple and a sac fly. But his defensive work helped halt the Generals offence in the fifth and a fly ball came his way with bases loaded and one out. He was able to work his momentum towards the infield while making the catch, then threw out the runner trying to tag up from third to end the inning.

Terrents Gem Take Huntingtown Back to Championship

A pitcher's duel between Chesapeake (AA) and Huntingtown ended with only one run scored between the two teams Tuesday night at beautiful Joe Cannon Stadium. We had two great outings by two 2019 right-handed pitcher's. Ryan Terrents (Huntingtown HS) and Colby Buckheit (Chesapeake AA) got the nod for their respective programs.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning Caleb Kawborsky led off the inning with a single up the middle, followed by a walk by Cy Harwood, and another single up the middle by Terrents which put Kawborsky at third. After a strikeout made it one down, 2019 Joe Mozingo came up clutch with a sac fly to left field to bring Kowborsky that would be the only tally of the contest.

The arm of Terrents had the Cougar bats stifled the entire game. Terrents, who only just returned to the mound in the past month after injury shut down most of the spring, surrendered only two hits while striking out six cougars in a complete game shutout. The Cane's offense was lead by Karbowsky who was 3-for-4 on the day with three singles and a run scored.

Buckheit went four innings for Chesapeake, giving up four hits , one run, four strikeout and three walks. Dylan Young came in to pitch two innings of one-hit relief while striking out three. Colton Spangler and young had the lone hits for the Cougars.
