Madison Preseason I.D.: Preview

This Sunday, March 10, the most heavily attended showcase on PBR Wisconsin’s calendar is headed to GRB Academy in Windsor: the Madison Preseason I.D. event. Currently, some of the top prospects in the state of Wisconsin are registered for the massive showcase – representing the 2020, 2021, and 2022 classes.

There are over 150 players attending on Sunday – with room remaining. For registration information and itinerary, click here. For a look at the most up-to-date version of Sunday’s roster, click here.

Most notably, four of the state’s top uncommitted juniors will be joining us this weekend, including No. 12-ranked 2020 Joe Hauser (Waunakee). The unsigned infielder is the highest ranked junior on our board, and is likely going to be one of the best bats in attendance. He just transferred into reigning state champs Waunakee last fall and we last saw him at the PBR Future Games in August.

Joe Hauser (8/1/18)

Joining Hauser as top ranked on-the-market 2020s: SS/3B Eddie Saucedo (Oregon), C Thomas Otto (Appleton North), and SS/RHP Taiten Manriquez (Waunakee). All three were members of Team Wisconsin’s Future Games roster, too.

Two top-10-ranked sophomores will be at GRB Academy on Sunday: INF/RHP Owen Washburn (Webster; uncommitted) and OF Tanner Marsh (Mondovi; uncommitted). Washburn is a legitimate two-way prospect and is intriguing on the mound given his bloodlines and older brother Jack, but has really developed his left-handed bat as he’s physically matured. Marsh is a left/left prospect and has, arguably, one of the top bats in the sophomore class and is also a natural defender on the outfield grass. He’s the No. 1-ranked outfielder currently on our 2021 board.

Also, take note of Sun Prairie’s attendees on Sunday. Three of the Cardinals best prospects will meet us in Windsor, including Liam Moreno (uncommitted). Sun Prairie’s sophomore third baseman wields maybe the state’s best right-handed bat. He’s bound to be a presence right in the middle of the Cardinals’ lineup this spring and we’re excited to see how Moreno’s progressed over the offseason.

Liam Moreno (9/15/18)

Backstop Matthew DePrey (2020), INF Carson Shepard (2021), and RHP/SS Peyton Jenkins (2021) are three fellow uncommitted Sun Prairie prospects to watch on Sunday. DePrey is an genuine breakout candidate to watch for ahead of the 2019 spring season. Shepard rocketed up the 2021 rankings in the latest update and is a savvy defender. And Jenkins has a strong arm and athleticism, and could burst onto the scene with a good performance this weekend.

One last note on this Sun Prairie crop headed to GRB on Sunday: freshman Jenkin Alexander is slated to join us, too. He’s got one of the more projectable left-handed bats within this 2022 class, as evidenced by his work at the PBR Junior Future Games last August.

There’s bound to be more freshmen who emerge as high-follows coming out of Sunday, but Luke Ross (Waunakee) and Nick West (Verona) are already on our radars, and both joined Alexander at the JFGs in August.

Five of Wisconsin’s best (and committed) juniors will show off their offseason gains on Sunday: LHP Ryan Stefiuk (Vanderbilt), RHP George Klassen (Purdue), C Jake Berg (Jacksonville), OF Will Ross (Saint Louis), and LHP Riley Frey (Wisconsin-Milwaukee). All five names are ranked within Wisconsin’s top 40 in its 2020 class.
