Matt Byrd Joins PBR Tennessee Staff As Regional Scouting Director

Tennessee Director of Scoutingbyrd

We are excited to announce the addition of Matt Byrd to the Prep Baseball Report Tennessee Staff as Regional Scouting Director.

Byrd joins the PBR Tennessee Staff with a wealth of baseball knowledge and an impressive resume.  In addition to his new position with Prep Baseball Report, Byrd is currently the head baseball coach at Knoxville Central High School and also serves as a head coach for Diamond-Simcox Baseball Academy during the summer.

Byrd, a 2006 graduate of Knoxville West High School, went on to play collegiately for two years at Hiwassee College.  He returned to Knoxville West as an assistant baseball coach in 2009 before being named head coach at Hiwassee College, a position he held for two seasons.  Most recently, Byrd served as an assistant coach for perennial state-power Farragut High School for two seasons before accepting the head coaching position at Knoxville Central during the summer of 2013.

Knoxville Central has a rich tradition of baseball success, winning state titles in 1973 and 1990, but the program has struggled in recent years.  The Bobcats won 14 games in Byrd’s first season at the helm, a number that may not sound overly impressive, but when you consider the program had just 11 total wins in the five years prior to Byrd’s arrival, it is easy to see his immediate impact on the program.

Byrd’s duties with Prep Baseball Report will include scouting and reporting on players in the East Tennessee area in addition to serving as an evaluator at PBR Tennessee events.
