Missouri Championship Bracket Continues To Take Shape



Yesterday, a handful of more teams earned district titles and advanced to the championship bracket for the Missouri State High School tournament. 

Here is a quick recap of yesterday’s action, highlighted by a few Class 4 walkoffs and close games. 

Class 5:
In District 4, CBC defeated 2012 Final Four participant Parkway North 11 to 6. Dan Herrmann picked up the win, while Joe Schrimpf, Desmond Parrish, and Justin Paulsen each had two RBIs to lead the offense. CBC will face off against Eureka in the sectional round. 

In District 9, Rock Bridge knocked off a potential Cinderella team in Camdenton, 13-7. Connor Brumfield led the Bruin offense, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Rock Bridge will face District 10 champion, Lebanon, who defeated Waynesville 3-2. Dylan Bradshaw threw six strong inning to pick up the win for Lebanon. 

Hazelwood West won the District 6 title, defeating Hazelwood Central 1-0. West will take on SLUH in the next round and we should see a matchup of two of the top ranked pitchers in Missouri and the Midwest in Devin Williams (Hazelwood West) and Brian Howard (SLUH). Devin Williams picked up the win in dominating fashion, striking out 14 in the one hit shutout. West scored the lone run of the game on a Teddy Molinari RBI single in the third inning 

In District 7, Ft. Zumwalt West slugged their way to a 17-9 win over Francis Howell North. In the next round, West will face the winner of the Francis Howell/Holt contest for the District 8 championship, which will take place today. 

In District 8, Holt slugged their way to an 11-1 win over Timberland and will face Francis Howell for the district title. 

In District 15, Ft. Osage knocked off Liberty 3-1, and will face Staley in the sectional round. Luke Crabb threw a four hit complete game, and got some offensive support form Chad Sutton, who blasted a solo homerun in the fourth inning to give Osage a 1-0 lead. Darby Raines extended the lead with a RBI single in the fifth.

 

Class 4
In District 1, Class 4 championship game, perennial favorite Notre Dame defeated Sikeston 4-3 in eight innings, in what was billed to be a competitive game, and it did not disappoint. Notre Dame scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score 3-3 on a Justin Landewee single, scoring Griffin Seibert, and won the game on a sacrifice fly by Luke Haines. Landewee threw all eight innings, striking out nine. 

In District 4, Westminster scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take home the district title in walk off fashion. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Brett Bond tied the game with an RBI single and Caleb Hicks followed with the game-winning hit.  Westminster will face Lutheran South or Windsor from District 3 in the next round. 

In District 9, Sullivan blanked Eldon 10-0 to take home the title and will face District 10 champs Logan-Rogersville in the next round. 

In District 12, Warrensburg advances by beating up on Nevada 15-4. Warrensburg will face a tough Seneca team next week. 

St. Mary’s blanked Miller Career Academy 13-0 in the District 5 championship game, and will face District 6 champion Clayton. Clayton defeated rival John Burroughs 3-2 in walk off fashion. Kidd Southerlin drove home the winning run to advance to the next round. 

In District 7, Duchesne defeated Warrenton 4-2 to take the district title. Duchesne will face District 8 champion Boonville, who blanked Kirksville 7-0. 

In District 14, O’Hara upset Pembroke Hill to advance to the sectional round and will face Oak Grove. 

In District 15, St. Pius X (Kansas City) got by Van Horn 3-1 to win the title and will square off against Savannah in the next round.

 

Class 3:
In District 3, St. Pius X (Festus) got by Herculaneum 6-5 to advance and face District 4 champion Brentwood, who defeated Maplewood. 

In District 8, Hallsville defeated Wright City 4-3, and advance to face District 7 champions Palmyra. 

In District 13, Fatima blanked Blair Oaks 3-0 to take the title. Fatima will face the winner of the District 14 game between Holden and Sherwood. 

In District 15, Richmond defeated Lawson 6-4, and will face Maryville in the sectional round.

 

Class 2:
In District 1, Holcomb defeated Portageville 9-8. Hunter Swafford had a 3-for-4 game and Colton Dunbar had two hits in four plate appearances to lead the Holcomb offense. Michael Glover drove home two runs, which helped erase a 4-1 deficit for Holcomb in the third inning. 

In District 2, Chaffee blanked Bloomfield 3-0, and will face Class 2 favorite Valle Catholic in the sectional round. 

Canton slugged their way to a District 6 championship with a 12-1 win over Milan. They will face the winner of the District 5 game between Barat Academy and Elsberry. 

In District 7, Harrisburg defeated South Shelby 8-2, and will face District 8 champion, Russellville. Russellville defeated Linn 10-4. 

In District 13, Cole Camp got by Skyline 5-4 to advance, and will face Archie in the next sectional round. 

In District 16, West Platte made easy work of East Buchanan by a score of 11-1 to claim the district title.

 

Class 1:
Cooter claimed the District 1 title, defeating Delta 5-1 and will square off against 2012 Final Four participant Oran in the sectional round. 

In District 3, Naylor upset Leopond to advance to the next round to take on Bakersfield, the District 4 champion. 

In District 9, Stoutland make easy work of Tuscumbia 11-1 to win the district title. Stoutland will face District 10 champs New Franklin, who upended Pilot Grove.

In District 11, Class 1 favorite Sturgeon defeated Silex 8-4. Sturgeon is looking to advance to their second consecutive Final Four. 

In District 6, McAuley Catholic upset Golden City to take the title and advance to face Dadeville. 

In District 13, Northwest defeated Leeton by a score of 14-6, and will take on defending Class 1 champion Santa Fe from District 14. Santa Fe beat up on Wellington 24-1 to win their district.
