NCTB Fall Classic Preview

Blaine Clemmens
Northern California Director of Scouting

On Friday we will begin our three-day stay in Stockton at the NCTB Fall Classic, powered by PBR. There are 16 teams in attendance and each will go through a testing session where their stats will be recorded and video gathered. Each team will play three games over the weekend, one each day. You can see all the registered teams/schedule at THIS LINK.

Below we will list SOME players that we are looking forward to seeing and of course, there will be many that catch our eye that we previously didn't have much info about. Next week we will have follow up articles breaking down the top players by grad year. It's late and the rosters are just about finalized, so let's get to it, previewing only uncommitted players.

Aldrete Baseball
2019 LHP Hunter Hanes - Pacific Grove HS - we saw 6-foot-3 lefty up to 86 mph at the Central Coast Open, he's athletic and long, not a lot of uncommitted left-handers with upside stuff like his

2019 OF/RHP Andru Hoguin - Soledad HS - another Central Coast Open standout, good speed, good arm, good looking hitter, can also pitch, just a lot to like, plays much bigger than he is

2020 INF/P Benjamin Pajas - Soledad HS - put up some big stats at Central Coast Open, bat speed and strength and a good arm, looking forward to seeing a follow up from that showcase

CBA Sacramento 2019/2020
2020 MIF Connor Polli - Capital Christian HS - was a good looking player at the Northern CA Underclass Games, talented offensively and defensively

2020 LHP Rio Britton - Capital Christian HS - long and lanky lefty, we saw good things from him at Bay Area World Series (BAWS) this past summer and word is he's been coming on

2020 INF Vinnie Bachelier - Capital Christian HS - another CCHS player, Bachelier showed well at BAWS and at the N CA Underclass Games, bat really stands out

California Bulldogs
2020 OF Creighton Kreshel - Valley Christian HS - athletic player with a good arm, solid speed, and a swing that projects for good things with the bat

2020 2B Ryan Ng - Leigh HS - caught our scouts eyes at a previous tourney with spray hitting ability and some noticeable speed, with solid D

2020 INF Armis Morris - Westmont HS - we've not seen but word is he swings it well and has shown a bit of pop

Chico Aces Navy
2019 RHP Jackson Torsey - Foothill HS (Palo Cedro) - 6-foot-2 right-hander who impressed us at a tourney earlier in year, was in the upper-80s during the summer

2019 LHP Bryce Armstrong - Corning HS - small school player with two-way ability, 6-foot-5 lefty showed up a fastball up to 83 last summer and a nice curveball

2021 C/MIF Anson Aroz - Placer HS - switch-hitting versatile player who is starting to standout as a catcher, which with that switch-hitting ability, is intriguing

Club All Star
2020 RHP/1B Jonathan Sarmiento - Kimball HS - big and strong right-hander, we saw him in the summer and it was IMPRESSIVE, fastball up to 88, a good 60, and showed hitting ability

2020 SS Zach Bartles - Lincoln HS (Stockton) - a heady player, impressed our scouts last summer with his baseball IQ and overall feel for playing the game, to go with speed and a solid arm

2020 LHP/OF Carl Johnson - St. Mary's HS (Stockton) - smaller left-hander, but he's got a quick arm and runs well, with a L/L profile and some tools, he got our scouts' eyes last summer

Dub Dynasty Baseball Black
2020 RHP Aidan Lee - Monte Vista Christian HS - 6-foot-3 and 210-pounds, Lee is a talented player with low-mid-80s stuff on his best days and also swings it well

2020 INF Roberto Nunez - Monte Vista Christian HS - versatile infielder who impressed our scouts at a tourney last summer as his bat and defense showed up quite well

2019 RHP Matt Campo - San Benito HS - he's a bit of a late bloomer, showing some low-80s stuff, with a curveball and there is life in the body for projectability

Dub Dynasty Baseball Blue
2022 SS Zach Lewis - Pacific Grove HS - his game is about good approach, good baserunning, with a chance to hit and stands out with his smooth D

2021 INF Austin Salamida - San Benito HS -  a smaller infielder but good swing and a heady player, shows some action and flashes the arm strength, plays hard

EJ Sports Warriors
2019 LHP Nick Liechty - Heritage HS - we saw the crafty Liechty at BAWS last summer and he was impressive. Different slot, loose arm, he's left-handed in all the right ways

2019 INF Carson Griffey - San Ramon Valley HS - athletic middle infielder, we came across him during a spring game, showed gamer-type approach with a flat swing, one to watch

2019 RHP Ethan Croley - Bishop O'Dowd HS - burly right-hander, it's been awhile since we saw him, going back to the fall of 2017, but he showed toughness and hints at quality stuff

Mavericks
2020 C Omar Plascencia - Lodi HS (previously Bear Creek) - was one of the better catchers among a good crop at BAWS last summer, good arm and has some pop, good build, he's a good one

NCTB Navy
2021 1B/LHP Blake Burke - De La Salle HS - one of the top 2021 players in California, Burke was a standout as a frosh, from the time we saw him last February in a game vs Bellarmine

2020 RHP Jack Buxton - Tamalpais HS - an uncommitted right-hander who caught attention in Arizona last weekend with 85-88 mph stuff

2020 CF Michael Mugan - Monterey HS - plus speed, strong arm, good stroke, intangibles, there is little he can't do on the field, he wowed us at Central Coast Open earlier this month

Plenty of players to note on this team we've seen and really like: 2019 C Carson Stevens (Franklin HS), 2020 1B/LHP Sam Brown (Petaluma HS), 2022 1B/LHP Jaron Nevarez (San Ramon Valley HS), 2021 INF/RHP TeJean Smith (Capital Christian HS), 2022 INF Joe Brown (Petaluma HS).. and others we've not seen as much and are looking forward to seeing

NCTB Scarlet
2021 1B/OF Brewster Mott - Vacaville HS - previously seen by us as a standout at the Northern California Underclass Trials, he's got a bat that makes a loud noise and big power potential

2021 MIF Aiden Berger - Palo Alto HS - Berger was a starter at Paly as a frosh and we saw him play well at the Boras Classic last spring. Left-handed hitting athlete up the middle

2021 RHP Jake Sapien - Buhach Colony HS - lower slot right-hander who has a penchant for missing bats, was up to 85 last summer

Plenty of players to note on this team, including: 2019 C Jacob Weiss (Buhach Colony HS), 2021 OF/P Stefan Foley (St. Patrick-St. Vincent HS), 2019 OF Griffith Fenn (Pleasant Valley HS)
