TINLEY PARK, IL – Top-ranked Lincoln-Way clinched at least a share of the Southwest Suburban Red Conference championship with a 3-0 victory over a surging Andrew club on Wednesday.

Senior right-hander Kevin Smith improved his record to 7-0 with a six-hit shutout. The Creighton recruit struck out nine and walked three.

Lincoln-Way North (25-1-1, 11-0) scored all its runs in the first two innings, including two in the first. Leadoff centerfielder Corey Krupske started the game by getting hit by a pitch. Then senior catcher Ryan Pellack followed with a double. After it looked as though Andrew starter Cameron Simak may wriggle out of the jam by retiring the next two batters, senior first baseman Reed Hero delivered a two-run single to give the Phoenix a quick 2-0 advantage.

The Phoenix added another run in the second when senior second baseman Drew Korosic dropped down a two-out bunt single and advanced to third on a throwing error. Within a blink, Korosic came around to score on a wild pitch.

The run support was all Smith needed. Pellack led the Phoenix offense by going 2-for-3. Simak limited Lincoln-Way North to only six hits, and only one in the final four innings. Andrew (18-9, 8-3) strung together consecutive one-out singles by Dennis Vilimek and Ryan Forrest in the fifth inning, but Smith rolled a 6-4-3 double play to get out of the inning. Andrew never seriously threatened again.
