The No. 10 ranked Col. Richardson Colonels took a 10-7 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning which proved to be just enough as the Colonels were able to hold off the St. Michaels Saints 10-9 on Wednesday’s matchup of top MPSSAA 1A teams.

The scoring was early and often for both offenses as St. Michaels was able to jump out to a 2-1 lead after the first frame. The Colonels were able to score six runs with two out after Remy Mangum (Chesapeake CC) hit an RBI double down the left field line followed by a two-RBI single to right-center off the bat of Jackie Zebron. Ty Scott would then clear the bases with two more RBI off a triple to deep right-center. Scott would score off a wild pitch, giving the Colonels a 7-2 lead.

St. Michaels would fight back in the top of the fourth inning scoring five runs to tie up the game. Ryan Smith had a two-RBI single along while Nick Newnam and Christian Glessner each added RBI singles in the inning.

Tyler Stanley and Zebron RBI singles would give Colonel Richardson the lead in the bottom of the fifth and they would punch another the following frame from Nathan Roth to make the score 10-7 heading to the top of the seventh.

St. Michaels would load the bases with two out and would get one run back off an infield error. A surprise bunt for base hit attempt caught everyone off guard and ended with another run, making the score 10-9 with bases still loaded. Scott, who had come in relief for the Colonels was then able to get a force out at second base on a close play to end this wild contest.

Colonel Richardson improve to 6-0 on the season, while St. Michaels drop to 5-1. St. Michaels will waste no time, as they head to Crisfield tomorrow for another Bayside matchup. Colonel Richardson will do the same and head to Pocomoke to square off with Bayside south member Pocomoke.
