BROKEN ARROW TIGERS

Coach Dobson has had some pretty solid runs throughout his tenure as the Tiger’s coach but you’d have to put this season’s squad up there as one of his most impressive yet.  Despite losing impact arms throughout the season, the Tiger’s have continued to rack up the wins and finished in a 4 way tie for first place in 6A-3 and through tiebreakers hosting a regional again.  The Tigers have done a great job all season long of piecing enough strike throwing arms together to give their explosive offense a chance.  The first five hitters in the Tigers lineup offer opposing staffs a ton of problems but each doing it in their own way.  Matthews is one of the more dynamic leadoff hitters in the state with game changing speed to help set the table.  Childers has been red hot in the 2 hole the last half of the season showing some serious power.  Gregory competes in the three hole as one of the top hitters with runners in scoring position with Flusche and Bates behind them to help clean up all the traffic on the bases.  If the Tigers can get enough low to no run innings out of the pitching staff, they have the type of offense that makes them a very difficult out in a playoff setting.

BIXBY SPARTANS

OVERALL RECORD: 25-8

DISTRICT RECORD: 11-3

POWER 25 WINS: 8

Coach Delay’s Spartans enter the postseason as our number 2 ranked team in the Power 25 and truly have the talent and firepower to be considered one of the top contenders for a state title in 2023.  The Spartans have had a year that has seen them get hot for long stretches and blow through some of the state’s best teams, as well as get very cold at times.  Outside of two bad weeks including the opening week in Texas as well as a 5 game stretch in mid April that saw them lose 4 of 5, the Spartans have been able to easily take care of business as one of the most talented teams in the region.  Offensively, they have so many different ways they can beat you whether it's from their barrel control guys that collect hits to the multiple power bats that can leave the yard at any notice.  On the mound is where they have the potential to be the most dominating with the one two punch of Knight and Moore both working their fastballs into the low 90’s and showing a feel for spin.  After those two they can turn to Hope and Justice that have shown the ability to rack up strikeouts and work efficiently on the bump.  If they get quality outings out of their top two guys filling up the zone, the Spartans have one of the deeper rosters making them very difficult in a longer tournament format.

PONCA CITY WILDCATS

OVERALL RECORD: 9-26

DISTRICT RECORD: 4-10

POWER 25 WINS: 0

PLAYERS TO WATCH

BRODY WICKER, UTL/RHP, 2024

GRANT HARMON, INF, 2023, NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE FOOTBALL COMMIT

COLTON JONES, OF, 2024

2023 hasn’t been a smooth ride for coach Middlebrooks and the Wildcats this year dropping 3 games to every one win.  Their 4 and 10 record in district play landed them in 6th place but that can be slightly deceiving with how they played some of the best teams in their district tough on monday nights.  The Wildcats had a tough time breaking through offensively in these contests but it was the arm of Brody Wicker that kept them within striking distance against Sand Springs, Southmoore, and Broken Arrow with a 5 run differential in those three losses.  If the Wildcats can get that type of performance on the mound and get some things to fall for them offensively they have a chance to put a real scare into a higher seed this week.

MUSKOGEE ROUGHERS

OVERALL RECORD: 11-20

DISTRICT RECORD: 2-12

POWER 25 WINS: 0

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

JARRETT CRAWFORD, C/RHP, 2023

THAIRENN THOMPSON, OF, 2023

AIDEN BARNOSKI, MIF, 2024

KALE TESTERMAN, OF/INF, 2024

Finding success for Coach Singler’s Roughers has been tough in district play going up against some of the most talented rosters in the state in 2023.  They also enter the playoffs on a tough 6 game losing streak which also doesn’t bode well for putting them in the spoiler category but they have found themselves throughout the year to have a winning record outside of their district games.  Their ability to pick up those victories as well as playing a good amount of freshman and underclassmen should pay dividends for the program heading into the future.
