ENID PLAINSMEN

OVERALL RECORD: 30-6

DISTRICT RECORD: 11-3

POWER 25 WINS: 3

PLAYERS TO WATCH

GARRETT SHULL, OF, 2024, OSU COMMIT

JAKE KENNEDY, RHP/INF, 2023, COWLEY COUNTY COMMIT

SETH CARLSON, RHP/UTL, 2024

MCCAGE HARTLING, C, 2024

BENNETT PERCIVAL, RHP/INF, 2024

COOPER JARNIGAN, UTL, 2024

WHAETLEY CHALOUPEK, UTL/RHP, 2025

Coach Gore and the Plainsmen broke through in 2022 to get into the State tournament after a long drought and have put together another strong resume in 2023 to try and make a repeat run.  The Plainsmen got off to a strong start to the season then had a lull in mid March that saw them lose 5 games in a row.  After that stretch the Plainsmen have rattled off 17 wins in their last 20 including a clean sweep in a pair of 1-0 victories against number 2 Bixby that earned them the right to host a regional.  While the Plainsmen sport a fairly deep roster with a couple of guys in the lineup that can beat you as well as a deeper staff that has multiple guys that can give them strong innings, it comes down to their two stars in outfielder Garrett Shull and right handed pitcher Jake Kennedy.  Shull has been on a tear as of late leading the Enid offense and Kennedy has shown the type of stuff that can miss even some of the state’s best bats.  If those guys continue to roll, Enid is a very tough out in a playoff setting.

JENKS TROJANS

OVERALL RECORD: 23-11

DISTRICT RECORD: 11-3

POWER 25 WINS: 4

PLAYERS TO WATCH

TY WALLS, SS/RHP, 2023, JOHNSON COUNTY COMMIT

CHANDLER FOWLER, INF/RHP, FORT SCOTT CC COMMIT

BLAKE LAMB, MIF/RHP, 2023, DRURY COMMIT

LOGAN TIBBETT, C/RHP, 2023, AMARILLO COLLEGE COMMIT

TANNER PRIMEAUX, 1B/LHP, 2024

Coach Hendricks took over the helm in 2023 and his Trojans got off to a slightly bumpy start to their 2023 campaign.  It took the Trojans a little time to find themselves as well as get healthy from early season injuries and they have found their stride as of late picking up big wins against tough competition.  The Trojans have the type of roster that is built for a regional setting with multiple arms showing the ability to take over games and giving them a ton of versatility and options depending on the opponent.  Fowler coming back to the mound has been a big boost to the staff that has already seen steady performances out of Lamb and swing and miss stuff out of Primeaux.  Offensively they have one of the more dynamic lineups especially at the top starting with the athletic leadoff man Ty Walls.  Walls has game changing speed and shown some extra base pop to help set the table for some of the bigger boppers in the middle such as Tibbett, Primeaux, and Fowler.  Pound for pound the Trojans have as much talent as anyone in the state and this roster definitely has the pieces to make a deep run if they are firing on all cylinders.

TAHLEQUAH TIGERS

OVERALL RECORD: 8-19

DISTRICT RECORD: 3-11

POWER 25 WINS: 0

PLAYERS TO WATCH

BECKETT ROBINSON, UTL, 2023

LEVI KELLY, INF/RHP, 2024

BRAYDEN NORTHINGTON, INF/OF, 2024

SYNJIN SAMPSON, UTL, 2026

ELI GIBSON, INF/RHP, 2024

Coach Nelson and the Tigers haven’t had a chance to rack up a ton of victories throughout the 2023 campaign but that doesn’t mean there isn’t reason for optimism moving forward.  They are able to play most of their games without a senior in the lineup getting multiple younger guys with talent valuable experience competing in the toughest district in the State.  Players like sophomore Beckett Robinson have the opportunity to really change the game from the top of the lineup and freshmen Synjin Sampson moving into the cleanup role as of late provide the Tigers with a lot to look forward to in the future.  While they might not have the firepower it takes in 2023 to make a deep run in the playoffs, don’t count them out as an easy win this week as they do have some experienced young guys that can make things very difficult for you if you take them too lightly.

PUTNAM CITY NORTH PANTHERS

OVERALL RECORD: 9-25

DISTRICT RECORD: 2-12

POWER 25 WINS: 0

PLAYERS TO WATCH

LANDON FONZI, OF/RHP, 2023, NSU COMMIT

JARED HINKLE, RHP/UTL, 2023, MID AMERICA CHRISTIAN COMMIT

AUSTIN GUERRERO, MIF, 2026

SLOAN FOSTER, OF/INF, 2023

DAYMIEN MARTINEZ, OF, 2023

In the first year under Nate Dion the Panthers had a tough go at it in their district games working to a 2-12 record and 9-25 record overall.  While there have been some challenges for the Panthers it largely has to do with the strength of schedule that they undertook in 2023.  They played 6 games against 5A teams and 4 out of state games with the rest of their schedule coming against 6A foes.  Having been battle tested all year the Panthers won’t see anything new this week in their regional and will look to play the role of spoiler and continue to work in some exciting young players into the lineup and gain valuable experience moving forward.
