Ohio Spotlight Game: #4 Vandalia Butler vs Troy

Vandalia Butler – In a Great Western Ohio Conference game in the North division the Troy Trojans traveled to take on the Vandalia Butler Aviators. The Aviators came out on top in a pitcher’s duel by a score of 2-0.

Not often does the turning point in a game happen in the bottom of the 1st inning but with the way these two pitchers were going that was the case on this evening.

Vandlia Butler junior third baseman roped a one out double into the left-center gap to start the Aviator rally. Aviator first baseman Matt Grossman drew a two out walk to put runners on 1st and 2nd for outfielder Chandler Craine.

Craine roped a double into the right-center gap to score both Burley and Grossman, putting the Aviators up 2-0.

The high powered, Vandalia Butler offense looked to be rolling but Troy’s senior right-handed pitcher Jordan Peck settled in.

Peck did a great job of keeping a very good offense off balance, giving up just one hit the remainder of the game. On any other day Peck’s performance may have been enough but unfortunately for Peck and the Trojan’s freshman right-handed pitcher Braedon Norman was dominant for the Aviators.

Norman showed why he is considered one of the top 2019 prospect in the Midwest.

While watching Norman throw it was hard to believe you were watching a freshman. All three of his pitches (fastball, changeup, and curveball) are advanced for his age but it was his pitchability and demeanor that was most impressive.

The righty located all three pitches wherever he wanted and threw them in any count, striking out twelve and giving up just one hit.

That one hit came in the top of the 7th with two outs and two strikes by way of an Austin Barney infield single. Norman was one pitch away from his second no-hitter of the season.

Vandalia Butler improves to 14-0 while the Trojans fall to 5-6 on this season.
