Ohio Spotlight Game: Madison vs Chardon

Eastlake – In a charity game being held at Classic Park between Western Reserve Conference foes Madison and Chardon, the Blue Streaks held on for a 5-4 victory on Friday night.

Madison struck first scoring two runs in the top of the 1st inning. Junior outfielder P.J. Lee got things going with a hard line drive to right field scoring Kevin Scheibelhoffer.

Chardon starting pitcher, junior right-hander Nick Sensibello would settle in and retire six of the next eight batters he faced. The Hilltopper defense came up big with two impressive double plays to keep things close.

The Blue Streak offense came alive again in the fourth inning plating three more runs. The big blow came from the bat of sophomore outfielder Joey Smith.

With no outs and runners on first and second, the left handed hitter lined a triple into the right field bullpen giving Madison a 4-1 lead.

Chardon would make things interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Down 5-3 the Hilltoppers loaded the bases after two walks and a hit by pitch. A passed ball drew Chardon within one run at 5-4.

Madison reliever Kevin Smith then got leadoff hitter Zack Green to pop up to end the game.

The Hilltopper offense was led by third baseman Joe Mysyk. The speedy infielder recorded a double, a triple and scored two runs.

With the win Madison improved their record to 6-6 and return to action on Monday April 25th against Willoughby South.
