(1) Birmingham Brother Rice (22-3; 16-2) vs. Orchard Lake St. Mary's (10-15; 8-10)

In a weather permitting game change, the Orchard Lake St. Mary's Eaglets were able to steal one from the top ranked Brother Rice Warriors 4-3 in a Tuesday night showdown in the catholic league rivalry game.  The Warriors split the doubleheader and won the war, capturing the overall 4 game series 3-1 on a comeback win in the nightcap 5-2.  

Eaglets starting pitcher Marshall Scott was drilled on his right arm from a humdinger that left Warrior hitter Nick Plummer's bat in the first inning.  Scott stayed in the game and escaped the inning allowing no runs.  In the bottom of the first, the Eaglets jumped on CMU-bound right handed pitcher Matt Constance scoring four runs off two errors, which in the end carried them to the victory.  However, Constance rebounded quickly by providing a solid backing striking out nine and giving up only five hits after the four run first inning attack. Top sophomore prospect, Bobby Cross, gave the Warriors a chance by singling in the fourth and driving in a run by starting the rally making the score 4-1. Scott stayed the course and pitched five tough innings taking the win.  In the sixth, Eaglet's ace starter Brandon Willard was brought in to shut the door on the Warriors and notched himself a save. In the seventh, pinch hitter Ross Haffey for the Warriors just missed a home run by crushing one off the fence landing him on second. Then Haffey scored from freshman Alex Malzone's double making it 4-2.  When it counted, Cross, lined a seed up the middle for RBI number two.  However, the Eaglets senior shortstop made an heads up play when he pump faked a throw to third and drilled the lucid Cross at second to end the game.  

Moving to the seventh in the nightcap, tied at two a piece, freshman outfielder Nick Plummer bombed his first career high school home run making the score 5-2.  Plummer hits in the 3-hole for the Warriors and is lights out at the plate.  Look for this young player to be a rock for the warriors in the years to come.  The Warriors of Brother Rice extend their dominant season to a record of 22-3 and remain in first place (16-2) in the Detroit Catholic League.
