Regis Jesuit 11 Valor Christian 4

HIGHLANDS RANCH - In a game matching up two private school powerhouses, and the first time the game was played since Valor moved up to the 5A level, the Raiders would prevail winning 11-4. 2019 RHP Patrick Strawbridge (Cisco JC) would get the start for the Raiders, and the Eagles would counter with 2021 RHP Ben Whipple.

Regis would take an early lead in the first getting an RBI single from 2019 1B Caden Wagner (Penn State) driving in 2019 OF Geno Macias (Air Force). The inning could have been worse with the Raiders getting the first two runners on, but 2020 C Declan Wiesner showed off his arm behind the plate throwing out 2019 2B Mac Padilla attempting to steal 3rd.

The Raiders would also threaten in the 2nd with a one out triple from 2020 OF Bryce Parsons, but the sophomore Whipple showed moxie forcing two weak infield groundouts to keep the score 1-0. In the bottom of the 2nd, Strawbridge would let the first two runners on by a walking 2020 OF Joey Bush, and hit 2020 INF Zain Zincola with a pitch. With one out 2019 3B Jack Foley would drive Bush in on a sac fly, and then 2020 Hunter Beindorf would drive in Zincola and himself with a 2-run bomb over deep left center field to take a 3-2 lead, but it would be the last hit Strawbridge would give up through 6 innings who proved to be too much for the Eagles mixing in an upper 80's fastball with a curve that kept the Eagles batters off balance for the rest of the game while also striking out 6.

The Raiders offense would take it from there answering with 3 runs in the top of the third highlighted by a lead off double from Padilla, who would be driven in by a Macias single, and an RBI double from 2020 Ethan O'Donnell who would drive in Macias again in the top of the 7th with an RBI triple.

The win moves the Raiders to 7 and 1 for the season. The loss drops the Eagles to 2 and 4.

Up next for Regis Jesuit will be their Continental League opener at ThunderRidge on Friday April 5th. For the Eagles they host Legend today in a non-league contest.
