PBR Michigan Spotlight Game: Utica Eisenhower vs Grosse Pointe South

Perennial state power Grosse Pointe South battled the up and coming Utica Eisenhower squad. Eisenhower pulled off a huge upset last year in the state playoffs defeating Birmingham Brother Rice, and was able to do the same to Grosse Pointe in 2016. 

2017 Jacob Raymond led off the game for Eisenhower with a laser double off the centerfield fence, the next hitter grounded out to 1st base. 2016 Andrew Szalkowski hit a fly ball to left field but it was ruled that Raymond left the bag early resulting in no run. 

In the top of the 4th inning with one out Szalkowski smashed a line drive homerun over the left field pole giving Eisenhower a 1-0 lead. 

In the top of the seventh inning, Szalkowski singled to center field, followed by a base on balls to 2018 Central Michigan University commit Joe Zontini. Ryan Chargo hit into a 4-6 fielders choice placing runners on the corners. Steve Ciennik scored Szalkowski on a sacrifice fly to left.

Although the first two hitters in that 7th inning that Grosse Pointe South sent to the plate made outs, they continued to fight.

2016 Poplawski was hit by pitch and stole second base. 2018 Davis Graham doubled to left center scoring Poplawski.

Eisenhower went to the bullpen calling in their closer Raymond. Raymond was able to seal the deal striking out the first batter he faced.
