PBR OK's Top Moments in 2022: McCaskill's Walk-Off for 3A Title

As 2022 comes to a close and we move into 2023 we want to take a look back at the top moments from the entire year covered by Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma.  We aim to provide the most comprehensive coverage of high school baseball in the State from our events as well as covering as many high school games as possible.  2022 was a banner year in Oklahoma with multiple players and programs making big jumps, picking up big hits, strong performances on the mound, and some crazy walk-off wins.  Be sure to follow along in 2023 as we aim to grow our coverage and be the true one-stop shop for all things Oklahoma High School baseball.

Every program and player starts the season off with the goal of capturing the state title in their respective class.  On top of that every player dreams of being the guy to capture that big moment to help their team raise the trophy and on May 14th it was Dax McCaskill delivering the final blow for Washington with his walk-off homer to win the 3A State Championship in run-rule fashion 13-2.  Washington returns a large portion of its 2022 championship team and should be primed and ready to try and run it back for 2023.

Positional Profile: 1B/OF

Body: 6-foot-2, 180-pound long and physical frame with present strength and size for more in the future.

Hit: RHH.  At the plate starts with a slightly open stance and narrow base.  Upright posture with the upper body throughout the swing.  Slightly tipped bat angle at preset with hands working rotationally through the zone.  Leg kick stride with slight load into the lower half with a rotational back leg turn into a firm front leg.  Shows some strength at contact and hits with good leverage.  Has quick hands through the zone and good overall bat speed for the 2024 class.

Power: 92 mph exit velocity off the tee and 94 mph exit velocity in BP.

Arm: RH.  INF-77 mph.  OF-75 mph.  Shows both an over the top arm slot with a long and loose arm action and a ¾ arm slot with a shorter arm action.

Defense: In the infield attacks the ball with smooth rhythm and good body control.  Shows a feel for glove action and fields the ball with soft hands.  Proper footwork around the bag.  In the outfield attacks the ball with longer strides and an upright posture.  Fields the ball on the outside of the glove side leg with solid glove action and clean transfers out of the glove.  Step behind crow hop technique.

Run: 7.20 runner in the 60.
